FORT MYERS, Fla. - Despite getting career highs from multiple players, North Florida volleyball's (13-19, 9-7 ASUN) valiant effort against three-seeded Central Arkansas (17-11, 13-3 ASUN) came up just short in five frames Thursday, Nov. 21 in the Atlantic Sun Championship Quarterfinals.
Jacqueline Arrington notched an impressive 14-kill and 10-block double-double,
Amy Burkhardt had 15 kills and 24 digs and
Annie Antar tied a career high with 61 assists.
North Florida had the lead late in the fifth after coming back in the fourth frame, but UCA managed to hang on.
UNF 2, UCA 3 (21-25, 25-18, 19-25, 27-25, 12-15)
- Set 1: The early portions of the first set were very evenly matched, neither side creating more than a two-point lead early on … UCA created the first three-point lead of the set, but UNF bounced back thanks to consecutive blocks to tie things at 11 … UCA had a one-point lead at the media timeout … the Bears would finish the set on a 10-7 clip.
- Set 2: North Florida started the second set with a 4-0 run to take a 5-1 lead … UNF stayed in front for the entirety of the set, getting balanced production and coming up with clutch blocks and kills in timely moments.
- Set 3: UCA held the lead early and took a 15-10 advantage midway through the frame … UNF stormed back to cut a deficit to 20-18, forcing UCA into a timeout, but the Bears closed the frame on a 5-1 run.
- Set 4: Down 6-7, UNF went on a 3-0 run, getting a kill from Jacqueline Arrington followed by a block … North Florida eked itself in front, leading 15-12 … UCA rallied to even things at 23-23, but Yarimar Francis-Garay entered and immediately came up with a kill to give the Ospreys the lead … Arrington took over the match to close out the set, giving UNF a 27-25 lead.
- Set 5: UNF pounced on UCA to start the fifth, taking a 3-1 lead … UCA would even things up, 4-4 … Burkhardt had a big swing from the back row and Arrington provided another kill to give UNF an 8-6 lead at the changeover … UNF worked a 10-6 lead, but UCA bounced back with a 3-0 run to force a timeout … the Bears would go on a 7-0 run to allow them to take the fifth set.
