CHARLESTON, S.C. - Annie Antar became the ninth Osprey in program history to reach 2,000-career assists as UNF and Charleston battled to five frames, but the Ospreys came up just short in the non-conference road finale Tuesday, Oct. 1.
Both teams needed two and a half hours to decide a slugfest that featured multiple career and season bests on both sides of the net. UNF and Charleston combined for over 150 digs and 110 kills along the way Tuesday night.
UNF 2, Charleston 3 (25-19, 11-25, 14-25, 25-18, 10-15)
- Set 1: UNF started off hot, hitting .444 to race ahead to a 6-1 lead, forcing a Charleston timeout … Charleston put up a 4-0 run late, but UNF's commanding lead allowed the Ospreys to win the first frame by six.
- Set 2: Charleston used a 3-0 run to take a 10-5 lead … the Cougars would get even as they stayed ahead with a 25-11 second set win.
- Set 3: UNF took a 4-3 lead with an Amy Burkhardt kill, but Charleston replied with a run to take a 12-5 lead … UNF posted a 4-0 run but it wasn't enough to overcome the early deficit.
- Set 4: An Antar ace put UNF on a 3-0 run, cutting the deficit to 11-9, forcing a Charleston timeout … the run continued as UNF went on a 6-0 clip to take a 12-11 advantage … the run expanded to a 10-2 run as the Ospreys reached a 20-17 lead … UNF hit .367 to force a fifth frame.
- Set 5: Burkhardt went for consecutive kills to break a 3-3 tie and give UNF a 5-3 advantage … Charleston rebutted with a 4-0 run to take a 7-5 lead … UNF was on the better end of two challenges to slow Charleston's momentum in the fifth ... the Cougars would close it out on an ace.
