JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida women's basketball (7-13, 1-5) went toe-to-toe through the first 20 minutes with Eastern Kentucky (16-5, 5-2) on its home court, but was unable to generate points in the second half in a 79-56 loss on Saturday afternoon in UNF Arena.

The Ospreys stayed with four points in three of the four quarters played against EKU, but were outscored, 25-7, in the third quarter for the Colonels to run away with the strong lead. Despite the loss, Emma Broermann had a great performance in the paint with 11 points and 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season and eighth of her career.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

First Half: Kaila Rougier opened the scoring for the Ospreys driving a layup home before Broermann picked up her first points of the afternoon…The Colonels scored five straight to extend their lead to four…Rougier and Broermann answered back to give the Ospreys their second lead of the day…Threes from Alexa Washington and Agnes Svansdottir helped UNF get within one…Washington drove home two more layups to keep the score even at the end of the first quarter, 19-19…The Ospreys hit back-to-back threes to open the second thanks to Jayla Adams and Rougier…Broermann scored UNFs next five points after two layups and a trip to the charity stripe…Svansdottir notched her second trey of the afternoon before the Colonels ensued on a nine-point run to end the half with a 37-33 lead. 

Second Half: The Ospreys struggled to open the second period with Eastern Kentucky scoring seven straight from the start…Adams grabbed the first points of the half to cut the deficit to ten…the Colonels proceeded on another scoring run before Sarah Taub tallied her first point from the free-throw line…Adams took her total up to seven with another layup before Lyric Swann added her first points as the Colonels took a 62-40 lead into the fourth quarter…Svansdottir knocked down her third trey to start the fourth before Adams drove in for the and-one to cut down the deficit…Broermann notched her double-double after scoring a layup to make it 11 points on the day.

"We played three good quarters of basketball today. We've been talking the last couple weeks about eliminating single-digit scoring quarters, so our third quarter effort was disappointing. We threw the ball away seven times that quarter alone. Overall, we weren't successful keeping them out of the paint and we put them on the line too much. Emma [Broermann] was a beast on the boards for us, as she continues to be one of the best rebounders in the conference. Jayla [Adams] continued her double-digit scoring streak and it was nice to see Alexa [Washington] have success scoring the ball again."
