Men's Soccer Plays to Draw in Morning Match Against FAU

Ethan Ash Scores First Goal of Osprey Career

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After being postponed due to weather the night before, North Florida men's soccer (2-1-3) suited up for a morning kickoff with Florida Atlantic (1-1-3) as the two teams battled to a 1-1 draw on a humid Tuesday morning at Hodges Stadium.

Strong defense in the first half turned into offensive playmaking in the second half with a pair of goals scored within six minutes of each other. Ethan Ash turned in his first career goal as an Osprey while FAU got the equalizer to complete the scoring minutes later.

Micah Gun received his first start of the season and tended the net with five saves. UNF played to a draw for the third time this season to improve its record to 2-1-3 entering ASUN play this upcoming weekend. North Florida has either won or played to a draw in five-straight matches.

  • Gun made a diving stop on a free kick just north of the box less than two minutes out of the break.
  • Steigelman fed Ash with a perfect cross, setting up his header goal in the 51st minute.
  • FAU got the equalizer on a similar play minutes later, followed by the Owls nearly taking the lead on a flicked on header from the top of the box that glanced off the right post.
  • Luc Granitur weaved his way through the backline and let loose on a shot that sailed just left in the 76th minute.
  • One final push from UNF on offense was unsuccessful to result in a 1-1 draw at Hodges.
