Volleyball Sweeps Coastal, Splits Opening Day in Conway

McKnight Tallies Consecutive Double-Digit Kill Performances

CONWAY, S.C. - UNF volleyball was clinical in its first true road win of 2023, sweeping the hosts of Coastal Carolina to cap day one in Conway and earn a split after matches with Georgia (3-1) and the Chanticleers (2-3). 

Kailey McKnight went for double-digit kills in both, Emma Pohlmann and Yarimar Francis-Garay made their UNF debuts and Annie Antar went for her fifth-career double-double. Kierstyn McFall was unstoppable against the Chanticleers (2-3), hitting .615 for nine kills.

Coastal Carolina previously defeated TCU, 3-1, on the opening night of the tournament Thursday evening. 

UGA 3, UNF 0 (22-25, 19-25, 24-26)

Inside the Sets
Set 1:
Georgia got out to an early lead, hitting .300 for a 10-3 lead … UNF stayed in it, with a 4-0 run via kills from Maddie Boyd, Kyla Solis, Kailey McKnight and Kierstyn McFall getting UNF within 18-16 … UNF benefited from a UGA service error, but the Bulldogs garnered three of the next four points, pushing UNF to take a timeout … down 23-18, Mahalia White and McKnight posted a 3-0 run to make UGA go to timeout … the Bulldogs hung on to win, 25-22 … McKnight had six kills in the first set.
Set 2: Janelly Ceopa dropped an ace to tie it up, 4-4 … UGA went on a 3-0 run to take an 8-5 … UGA went on a 4-0 run to take a 19-10 lead … UNF rattled off a 4-0 run, getting within 20-15 to push UGA to a timeout … 
Set 3: Yarimar Francis-Garay and Emma Pohlmann made their UNF debuts … UGA held the lead in the third … two Kyla Solis kills factored into a 5-0 run to get UNF within 21-18, forcing UGA to take a timeout … down 24-19, UNF faced match point and went on a 3-0 run, pushing UGA to another timeout … the run continued, with UNF working past five UGA match points, tying it 24-24 … the Bulldogs held on with a kill and attack error.

Inside the Sets
Set 1:
UNF got an early 2-1 lead and never let go of it or let Coastal Carolina force a tie … the Ospreys hit .353 while holding Coastal to .100 on the attack at the media timeout … UNF's largest run of the set was a 5-0 clip sending UNF from 19-15 lead to a 23-15 advantage and eventually the set.
Set 2: North Florida had a throttle on the session the entire frame, hitting .379 while committing only two errors … conversely, Coastal committed eight errors and hit just -0.125 with eight errors.
Set 3: North Florida reversed Coastal Carolina's only momentum of the match, overcoming a 6-2 deficit … UNF went on an 8-4 run, tied it 10-10 and finally took the lead, 13-12, with a Kyla Solis block … the set saw two more ties until McKnight and Maddie Boyd teamed up on a block for the 16-15 lead, an advantage that remained.
