Tourney Preview: Getting After it in Gainesville to Open the NCAA Tourney

Women’s Tennis Heads to UF For First and Second Round

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UNF women's tennis begins the NCAA Tournament in Gainesville Friday against the No. 16 and host Florida Gators in the first round of the NCAA Tourney. The winner advances to the second round for a meeting with the winner of Georgia Tech and UCF.

UNF plays in its 10th NCAA Tournament since 2010 and aims to advance to the second round for the second time in North Florida Division I history. North Florida's last appearance came in 2021 when the Ospreys took down No. 25 Ole Miss in the Georgia Tech Regional.

For the second time in three years and for the tenth time since 2010, UNF women's tennis (18-6, 7-1 ASUN) won the ASUN Championship title after defeating Stetson (18-8, 6-2 ASUN) Saturday afternoon.

Reigning 2021 ASUN Tournament MVP Kit Gulihur continued her success on the court with a top singles slot victory at No. 20 Florida (1-0), but the Ospreys (0-1) dropped the spring season opener, 6-1, in Gainesville on a brisk Sunday afternoon.

UNF Notes
  • UNF is coming off its 10th ASUN Tournament Championship and seventh in the last eight years
  • The Ospreys nearly swept the ASUN Postseason Superlative awards. UNF took all but one as Kit Gulihur was named ASUN Player of the Year, Tournament MVP, Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Doubles Pair of the Year with Ana Paula Melilo. Head coach Catherine Dunagan also earned her second ASUN Coach of the Year honor.
  • UNF's last match against an SEC team in the NCAA Tournament resulted in a win as North Florida knocked off Ole Miss.
  • North Florida has won 10-straight matches, going 8-4 in road matches this year
  • Kit Gulihur will also represent UNF in the NCAA Singles Championships
