LYNCHBURG, Va. - Peter Holden twirled 5.2 innings of one-run ball and
Alex Lodise launched the second grand slam of his freshman season, but Liberty's seven-run eighth inning felled UNF's chances of taking the opener in a 12-8 loss Friday, April 21.
Gabriel Esquivel also homered while
Austin Brinling and
Matthew Clements had multi-hit games in the losing effort. UNF (21-17, 7-9 ASUN) was vying for its first win in series history at Liberty (18-19, 9-7 ASUN) as the Ospreys started their third and final series as league foes at Liberty.
The North Florida offense tagged ASUN Preseason Pitcher of the Year Garrett Horn for seven hits and six earned runs before coming up short late Friday.

Behind the Line Score
- UNF started the scoring in the first. Brinling singled to center, moved to third on an error and scored on a Cade Reich double down the right field line.
- Both starters found their groove as it remained 1-0 until the fourth.
- North Florida's six-run outburst vaulted the Ospreys to a 7-0 lead through four. Esquivel homered, Aidan Sweatt plated another on a sac fly and Lodise hit a towering grand slam to left center.
- Liberty showed a little life thanks to a Cam Foster RBI double in the fifth, but Jakob Runnels erased that run with an RBI double off the wall in right shortly after.
- The Flames started to creep into the game with a four-run seventh thanks to a three-run double and RBI single that plated an unearned run.
- A leadoff walk started a haunting bottom of the eighth though as Liberty followed with a single, double and three-run go-ahead home run. Liberty added insurance runs with the help of three more hits.
