Baseball's Early Lead Not Enough at No. 5/4 Florida

UNF Out-Hit Gators in First Meeting on the Season

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Righty Clayton Boroski held the nation's leader in home runs without a baserunner for four innings, but the No. 5/4 Gators were able to get some timely hits down the stretch as UNF's early lead wasn't enough in a 7-2 loss at Florida (16-3) Tuesday, March 14.

Boroski tied a season-high with 4.1 innings pitched, setting down the Gators in order through the first 12 batters. UF hadn't gone more than two-straight innings all year without getting a runner on base, a streak Boroski snapped.

North Florida (10-8) scored a run in the first and the third, leading 2-0 until the Gators scored three two-out runs to take the lead for good.

No. 5/4 UF 7, UNF 2

  • Boroski cruised through the first, fanning two while getting Jac Caglianone to lineout to left.
  • The Ospreys threatened in the second, getting consecutive singles from Dallen Leach and Matthew Clements, but UF worked out of it with a groundout and flyout.
  • UNF made it 2-0 in the second thanks to a two-out RBI double from Cade Reich just inches inside the third base bag.
  • Florida finally reached base in the fifth and eventually crossed home four times with an infield RBI single, two-RBI triple to the track in right and an RBI single through the right side.
  • The Gators put up three runs in the sixth, all with two outs. Ty Evans singled in two after a single, walk and sac bunt preceded the base knock. A first-and-third play on the bases brought in the seventh.
