JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UNF men's tennis (6-3) earned every bit of a big win against No.74 Cleveland State (11-6) Sunday, snapping the Vikings' seven-match winning streak with a 4-3 triumph.
Rodrigo Crespo delivered the dramatics, clinching the win to keep UNF undefeated on its home courts this season.
The Ospreys started strong as
Matt Carroll and
Bruno Vietri secured a 6-3 win on the second court in doubles play. Shortly after,
PJ Kotan and
Andreas Scott clinched the doubles point for UNF with a 6-4 win. The final doubles court was left unfinished at 5-5.
In singles play, Carroll fell in two sets at the fourth position. With a tie score, the Vikings gained a 2-1 lead as Vietri fell in two sets as well. Kotan secured a 6-2, 7-5 win in the fifth slot to tie up the score, 2-2. The final three courts went to three sets to determine the outcome of the match.
Jonas Hartenstein fell in three sets in the top slot as the Vikings took a 3-2 lead.
Breno Marques earned a clutch third set to tie the score, 3-3. With the final point up to the second court,
Rodrigo Crespo secured a 7-5 victory in the third set to clinch the win for the Ospreys.
The Ospreys have a busy week as they host Pacific Tuesday, March 14, followed by hosting UAB Thursday, March 16. Both matches will be held at the UNF Tennis Complex.
