Women’s Tennis Splits Sunday Doubleheader

UNF Nearly Defeats FSU, Sweeps FAMU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - North Florida (5-2) women's tennis nearly knocked off Florida State (5-1), but bounced back to sweep Florida A&M (0-5) Sunday afternoon as the Ospreys split the twin bill in Tallahassee.

The match against Florida State got off to a slow start as the Seminoles secured the doubles point and the first two singles points, giving them a 3-0 lead. But, UNF replied and nearly shocked the Seminoles.

No. 107 Kit Gulihur defeated top-slot opponent, No. 52 Anna Arkadianou, in two sets, while Megan Forster completed the same in the third position. With UNF trailing 3-2, Jasmin Makela just barely fell short against her opponent giving the Seminoles the deciding court. Makela and her opponent were knotted at 5-5 in the second set before FSU's Alice Amendola pulled away. Annabelle Davis won in three sets in the second position, finalizing the 4-3 score for the match.

Less than an hour later, the Ospreys were back at it facing the Rattlers, quickly winning in doubles play as Gulihur and Ana Paula Melilo won, 6-1. Kendall Nash and Megan Forster did the same at the second slot as the third court was left unfinished.

Nash defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-2, followed by Forster securing a point in the second position with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Davis made her first debut in the top slot and dominated 6-1, 6-1, clinching the win for the Ospreys. This victory moved UNF to an undefeated mark of 12-0 against FAMU.

The Ospreys travel to Miami Saturday, Feb. 11 to face Florida International before having a two week break until they face SEC opponent Auburn at home Saturday, Feb. 25.
