JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UNF baseball put up runs in each of the last three innings and got home runs from
Jakob Runnels and
Alex Lodise, but big innings from USC Upstate out-did UNF in a 15-7 loss to the Spartans Tuesday, Feb. 21.
Righty
Will Ohme was a bright spot out of the bullpen, spinning a career-long 4.0 innings while fanning four and not surrendering a walk. Runnels paced UNF's offense with three RBI as well as his first-career home run at UNF.

Behind the Line Score
- USC Upstate tucked a two-run home run inside the right field foul pole for a quick 2-0 lead. A two base fielding error on a grounder ended up leading to a 3-0 lead for the Spartans after the first half of the inning.
- UNF nearly evened it up in the first, loading the bags as Blake Pound entered the box. Pound ripped one to center, but it was caught to end the inning.
- Upstate kept finding holes in the third, tallying five runs on six hits
- UNF suffered more hard luck in the fourth after an Austin Brinling scorcher was caught at first with two men on, ending the fourth.
- After just barely getting under two fly outs, Jakob Runnels ripped a scorching line drive two-run home run over the left field wall, scoring Finn Howell in the fifth.
- UNF recorded two outs on the bases, but USC Upstate still managed to get another run in the seventh on a triple and a single.
- Despite not recording a hit in the seventh, UNF pushed across three runs. A walk and two hit batters was followed by a Gabriel Esquivel RBI groundout. USC Upstate coughed up a routine fly ball in right and made a throwing error on a force out attempt at second, giving UNF two more runs.
- A pair of home runs, one of which was a three-run homer, expanded Upstate's lead to 14-5 in the eighth.
- Runnels came through with his third RBI of the night, lacing an RBI single to left to score Sweatt in the eighth.
- Alex Lodise ranged out into the shallow infield to track down a looping line drive, but an Upstate runner was at third and able to score in the unusual sac fly situation.
- Lodise turned around and belted a hanging curve ball to left center for a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth.
