BALTIMORE, Md. - In their sixth game on the road in their past seven matchups, North Florida women's basketball (3-7) gritted their way to a 49-43 win over Coppin State (3-7) to close out the away stretch on a strong note early Monday afternoon.
It was the first time that the Ospreys have won a game while scoring under 50 points since defeating Jacksonville, 46-44, on Jan. 25, 2012. They have held opponents to 51 points or less in all three wins, while it was also the first time holding a team to 43 points or less since last season against Trinity Baptist.
Jayla Adams and Selma Elkund lead the pack as the only double-digit scorers with 11 points each, while also matching assist and block totals with two and one respectively.
Emma Broermann was dominate on the boards yet again with 11 rebounds, followed by
Kaila Rougier and
Lyric Swann with seven each.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
First Half: North Florida started the game in dominant fashion with 16 straight points with no scores allowed on defense until the final five seconds of the first quarter...Adams started the run with a three-pointer and it ended with a pair of buckets from Rougier and Eklund to send the Ospreys to the second period up double digits...Coppin State wouldn't go down without a fight, as they started to generate offense in the second quarter, but back-to-back threes from Swann and
Alexa Washington put them at bay...UNF went into the break with a 26-18 lead in what was a defensive game in each quarter of play.
Second Half: Ospreys scored quick again to get the third going with a Rougier layup to go back up by 10...points continued to be a premium going into the back half of the game with with Eklund and Taub combining for six points to finish the quarter with 19 points between the two teams going into the final period...the Eagles were able to pull the game within a possession early in the fourth, but another three from Adams and a nifty pass from Rougier to Broermann kept Coppin State in check...with 1:24 left in the game, Eklund nailed the hook-shot dagger that put the Eagles away in a 49-43 victory for the Ospreys on the road.

COACH'S THOUGHTS
"I was thrilled for our girls to seal the win today! It wasn't a pretty game, but we found a way. I thought our defensive effort in the first quarter really set the tone. Our players did a great job locking in to the scout and limiting the production of Coppin State's best players.
On the offensive end, we turned the ball over too much, which kept us from scoring the ball. Even so, we won the battle of points in the paint. A lot of that had to do with our work on the glass. Emma [Broermann] finished with double-digit rebounds and everyone got involved today. Overall, this was a true team victory!"
