JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida women's basketball look to get back on track over the holiday weekend with back-to-back games against Georgia Southern and USC Upstate in the GATA Turkey Throwdown hosted by Georgia Southern from Nov. 24-25 in Statesboro, Ga.
Friday's matchup against Georgia Southern at 4:30 p.m., will be broadcasted on ESPN+, but there will be no stream for Saturday's game against USC Upstate at 2 p.m. Updates for both games will be made through live stats, as well as on Twitter at OspreyWBB and on Instagram at OspreysWBB.
FROM THE JUMP
- Have sights set on earning first road win of the season in fourth attempt against Georgia Southern.
- Will also play USC Upstate in first and only game this season that's on neutral site, as well as on only one day of rest.
- Will be first time playing in back-to-back games over two days since the ASUN-MAAC Dublin Challenge last season against Marist and Rider.
- UNF currently ranks ninth in the nation for three-point attempts (29.0) and 21st in the nation for three-pointers per game (9.4).
- The Ospreys also stand just outside the top 40 nationally for points per game off the bench.
- Jayla Adams is 33rd among all teams nationally in total assists (25) and top 50 for assist/turnover ratio (3.12).
- Adams is coming off a game against USF where she set career-highs for points (20), field goals made (6) and three-point field goals made (5).
- Emma Broermann is 17 minutes away from surpassing 2,000 career minutes played with the Ospreys, while Lyric Swann is two appearances away from reaching 100 collegiate games played.
- Swann has also scored in 61 consecutive games, which dates back to her redshirt sophomore season at CBCC Essex.
- Alexa Washington joins Adams and Swann as the only three averaging double-digit points with Adams leading with 11.2 PPG.
SCOUTING REPORT
Georgia Southern
- Set to host the GATA Turkey Throwdown weekend with a 3-2 overall record and a 3-0 record at home.
- Coming off a 48-point win at home against Albany State on Monday, Nov. 20.
- Suffered loss on the road to Georgia a week earlier, as well as another to ASUN opponent, Jacksonville, by two points.
- Went 21-10 overall with a 12-6 record in conference play last season with a trip to the WBI Tournament.
- Was selected to finish fifth in the Sun Belt Preseason Coaches Poll with 131 points and one first-place vote.
- Terran Ward is the centerpiece of the Eagles' team averaging a team-leading 20.0 PPG, 10.2 RPG, 2.4 SPG and 25.8 MPG.
- The Preseason All-Sun Belt First Team selection has recorded three double-doubles through five games this season, including five steals earlier this week against Albany St.
- Simone James is also a key piece on offense with 11.0 PPG, 5.6 RPG and a .581 field goal percentage.
USC Upstate
- The Spartans enter this weekend's tournament with a 2-4 overall record and 0-4 away from home.
- Their two wins came this past Monday against South Carolina State, as well as against Lees-McRae College.
- All four of their losses came on the road, including a 10-point loss to ASUN opponent, Queens (N.C.).
- They will face Detroit Mercy on neutral court on Friday, Nov. 24, before its game against the Ospreys the following day.
- Last season, the Spartans were 11-20 overall under Jason Williams' first year as the head coach.
- USC Upstate was selected sixth of nine teams in the Big South Preseason Coaches Poll with Trinity Johnson becoming a Preseason All-Big South Second Team honoree.
- Johnson has been dishing out the rock through six games this season with 6.2 APG to go along with her 6.0 PPG.
- Rebekah Gordon currently leads the team in points scored with 9.8 PPG, followed by Dakota Reeves and Isabell West with just over eight PPG.
