JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A back-and-forth game that saw multiple scoring runs didn't fall the Ospreys' way, as North Florida women's basketball (1-2) suffered an 84-75 overtime loss against Florida Atlantic (1-1) on Monday evening at the UNF Arena.
The Ospreys had four players in double figures for a third consecutive game to open the season for the first time in program history. It was also the second consecutive meeting that saw overtime between the two teams with the last meeting in 2021 resulting in a 85-79 overtime victory for UNF.
Emma Broermann led the team in scoring with 19 points off a 8-for-9 shooting night, while
Jayla Adams notched a career-high in assists with 10 total against the Owls.
Kaila Rougier,
Selma Eklund and
Alexa Washington joined Broermann with double-digit scoring performances.
UNF and FAU have played to overtime finishes in each of the last two meetings, with North Florida earning the win in the previous decision back in 2021.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
First Half: UNF started hot from downtown with back-to-back threes from Rougier and Eklund...defense showed on both sides the rest of the period with the Ospreys holding a 12-6 lead through one...after an 8-0 run from the Owls coming out for the second,
Jayla Adams started a run for UNF completed by Washington's three-pointer for seven consecutive points...another three from Washington, followed by one by
Helena Rafnsdottir set up a 30-28 FAU score at the half.
Second Half: Eklund came out with the first two field goals of the second half to tie the game up at 34 a piece...a pair of threes from Rougier with a layup from Eklund in between expanded the Osprey lead to eight...Washington made another three-pointer with Broermann notching layups in the paint to be up by four at the end of the third period...Broermann continued her scoring late with three of the next four UNF field goals made...after a run from FAU put the Ospreys down four, Rougier's clutch three and Eklund's last-second layup sent UNF to overtime for the first time since 2021.
Overtime: Adams and
Lyric Swann kept the Ospreys in it through the first three minutes of overtime to stay at a one-possession game...missed shots and turnovers late in the extra period plagued UNF in the final minutes of the game, as they suffered their second loss of the season against the Owls, 84-75.

- Broermann was one rebound away from her eighth double-double, as she was ultra-efficient going 8-for-9 from the field in her 19 points scored.
- Coming off an ASUN Freshman of the Week selection, Washington scored double-digits for a third consecutive game to open her career.
- Eklund had the best game through her career so far with a career-high 13 points and seven rebounds.
- Adams become the first UNF player this season to record 10 assists in a game.
