Men's Soccer Drops 2-1 Decision to ASUN-leading Lipscomb

Joaquin Acuna Scored Third Goal of Season

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida men's soccer (2-5-4, 0-3-1) equalized late in the second half against Lipscomb (5-2-3, 4-0-0), but allowed a goal just shortly after to fall at home, 2-1, on Saturday evening at Hodges Stadium.

The Ospreys outshot Lipscomb in the second half, 5-3, and scored in the 74th minute that came from a cross field pass from Owen Cunha to Joaquin Acuna to net the tying goal. Just six minutes afterwards, the Bison scored yet again to regain the lead after scoring in the fourth minute earlier in the match.

GOALS

4' | Tyrese Spicer (Ploutarchos Alonefti & Malachi Jones) - LIP
74' | Joaquin Acuna (Owen Cunha) - UNF
80' | Javanne Smith (Tyler Stinnett & William Bryan) - LIP

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Just under four minutes into the game, Lipscomb opened with a goal on their first shot attempt of the game.
  • UNF attempted its first shot in the 38th minute, but Acuna's chance skimmed over the crossbar for a goal kick.
  • Acuna had another chance with a shot on goal in the final minutes of the half, but the Bison keeper makes the save for UNF to head into the half down one.
  • Luc Granitur got a shot off early in the second half from beyond the box, but an easy save was made by the keeper.
  • Another opportunity presented itself right after for Braden Masker, but the shot was just wide left on the mark.
  • The Ospreys finally hit pay dirt in the 74th minute with Acuna creating space on the right side to force a deflection into the goal.
  • UNF had their sights set on forcing a draw until the Bison attacked swiftly once again with another goal scored in the 80th minute.
  • Multiple attempts to push on offense did not go the Ospreys' way in what resulted in a 2-1 loss at home against the current leader of the ASUN.
