Men's Soccer Falls in Season Finale at Central Arkansas

Herbie Steigelman Ties D-I Program Record for Most Games Played

CONWAY, Ark. - In the final game of the regular season, North Florida men's soccer (3-8-4, 0-5-1) fell on the road to Central Arkansas (3-8-4, 2-2-3) in a 3-0 loss on Saturday afternoon.

The Ospreys had 15 total shot attempts throughout the game, including three each from Aiden Jokomba and Niklas Schaffner. Two of the five shots on goal in the match came from Schaffner, followed with Jokomba, Herbie Steigelman and Brian McManus Jr. each having one.

Steigelman wore Osprey colors for the final time in his career, as he matched the Division I program record for most games played in a career with 69 total. He was the only UNF player to not only play, but to also start in all 15 games this season.

  • Shortly after in the 56th minute, Central Arkansas turned around and scored their second goal of the game.

QUICK KICKS

  • Schaffner recorded three shots, including two shots on goal, in his second appearance of the season.
  • Second game this season that goalkeepers Micah Gun and Preciado saw playing time in the same match.
  • Granitur ends his 2023 campaign as the team leader in goals with five total, while Acuna and Nick Kishchenko each finish with the lead in assists with three total.
  • Steigelman played the full 90 minutes in his 14th of 15 games this season.
  • Put out the same starting lineup against the Bears as they did earlier this week against Mercer.

FROM THE MOUTH OF MARINATOS

"Cruel score line for the chances we created. We created some of the most clear-cut chances of the season and didn't finish and UCA finished theirs. The guys played hard for 90 minutes, but with 15 shots and five to six clear-cut chances and no goals, it is a tough pill to swallow. We could have been up 3-1 at half and found ourselves down, 1-0. In the second half, we created chances but conceding the second goal put us in a tough hole. I want to thank the seniors for their contributions to the program!"
