Dominant Fifth Set Cues Volleyball to Win at Queens

Boyd Goes for Career-Best 15 Kills, Ospreys Hit .474 in the Fifth Frame

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Thanks to a career-high 15 kills from Maddie Boyd, .474 hitting percentage in the fifth set and Rocio Moro's second-straight match of at least 35 digs, North Florida volleyball (13-12, 6-5 ASUN) dropped Queens (4-19, 1-10 ASUN), 3-2, Friday, Oct. 27 in the weekend opener.

Kailey McKnight and Kierstyn McFall joined Boyd with double-digit kill performances, while Annie Antar was just short of another double-double with 39 assists and nine digs. Emma Pohlmann came up with three timely aces and was a spark plug with 11 digs.

Inside the Sets
  • Set 1: North Florida raced out to an 8-3 lead, but Queens stayed in the set with a 4-2 clip … six Ospreys tallied at least one kill to carry UNF to a 15-9 lead at the media timeout … up to that point Queens had been held to just -.048 hitting … UNF finished with five blocks for the set, getting three kills each from Kailey McKnight and Maddie Boyd.
  • Set 2: Thanks to a 4-0 run capped by an Emma Pohlmann ace, UNF took a 6-3 lead … Queens would cut into the 10-5 deficit, getting within one at 12-11 … a Queens service error and timely Morgan Wilson ace made it 14-11 UNF … Queens would eventually take a 19-18 lead, its first since having a 3-2 advantage … the hosts finished on a 6-1 run.
  • Set 3: Maddie Boyd and Anna Butler went for consecutive kills to break a 1-1 draw … tied 4-4, Queens tallied a kill and an ace to post a 6-4 lead … North Florida tied it up at six once again and got another ace from Kelly Negron to stay neck-and-neck with Queens … UNF used an important 3-0 run to break open for a 12-9 advantage … Rylee Moorhead had an ace and Boyd unloaded for an overpass kill, giving UNF a 15-10 lead at the media timeout … UNF used a 3-0 run to take a 20-14 lead and force a Queens timeout … Moorhead and Boyd teamed up for a block to seal the set.
  • Set 4: Queens was the first to make a run in the fourth, going on a 5-0 clip to take an 8-4 advantage … North Florida would trail 13-7, but UNF came back with a huge 4-0 run to force Queens into a timeout … North Florida won a marathon point, saved by a diving Pohlmann, helping UNF to a 16-14 lead … Mackenzie Piester prevented Queens from getting even at 18 with a kill on a Moro assist … Queens clawed back to take a 20-18 lead via a 4-0 run … Pohlmann had an ace roll off the tape to tie things at 20-20 … Queens went on a 3-0 run, giving the Royals consecutive set points, but UNF replied to tie it at 24-24 … North Florida would work past another set point before Queens finally sealed it.
  • Set 5: Boyd had a kill, solo block and Annie Antar added another kill to give UNF a 3-2 lead … UNF went on a 5-0 run, forcing Queens into a timeout … North Florida won a key challenge, reversing a 7-4 point to make it 8-3 Ospreys at the changeover … UNF hit .474 for the set, with Kelly Negron sealing the match with an ace.
