FLORENCE, Ala. - North Florida volleyball (11-12, 4-5 ASUN) rallied to take the first set of Friday's road trip opener, but the host North Alabama Lions (12-9, 4-5 ASUN) got a dig-kill to end the second frame and went on to win in four as the Ospreys dropped the match, 3-1, Oct. 20.
UNF 1, UNA 3 (25-22, 23-25, 20-25, 13-25)
Inside the Sets
- Set 1: UNA went on a 6-0 run to take a 10-6 lead in the first, but Kailey McKnight broke the Lions' run with a kill … down 11-7, UNF went on a 3-0 run to get within one, using a McKnight kill and block assists from Kierstyn McFall and Anna Butler to get back into the set … the Lions finished the first portion of the opening set with a block, taking a 15-12 lead into the media timeout … North Florida turned things around out of the mandatory break, going on a 4-0 run … UNF broke a 17-17 tie with a 2-0 run, forcing UNF to take a timeout … UNA did the same, pushing UNF to take a timeout … even at 22-22, but UNF forced the Lions into two attack errors as UNF won, 25-22.
- Set 2: Rocio Moro was impenetrable early in the set and McKnight stayed hot, reaching nine kills at the 7-5 point in the second as UNF held the lead … UNA replied with a 5-0 run to take a 10-7 lead … Annie Antar tied things up with an ace as UNF went on a 4-0 run for a 11-10 lead … UNA held the 15-13 lead at the media timeout … the Lions pulled ahead to a 19-15 lead … UNF didn't go away, rattling off a 3-0 run to force UNA into a timeout … McFall tied the set up with a kill, working around a UNA sideout opportunity … the Lions worked a 24-21 lead, but North Florida got two points back, forcing UNA into a timeout … but, UNA pulled off a miraculous dig kill for the set.
- Set 3: North Alabama took a quick 4-0 lead, but Anna Butler broke the early run … the Lions held the lead for most of the early going, but McKnight's 13th kill came on a rocket that cut the deficit to one at 10-9 … UNA held on to the lead going into the media timeout, up 15-12 … Kyla Solis tied the match up, 18-18, with an overpass kill, with UNF going on a 5-0 run to take a 19-18 lead … the Lions won the next three to take a 21-19 advantage … Mahalia White broke the UNA run with a kill … the Lions won the next two points to take a 2-1 lead.
- Set 4: The Lions took a 5-0 lead to start the set, but McKnight ended UNA's run with a kill … UNF won a key challenge to take a 7-2 deficit to a 6-3 deficit … UNA went on a 7-2 run to take a 21-12 lead and eventually the set.
