Hendricksen Surpasses 1,500-Career Points Despite Loss at UNA

Forward Goes for 31 Points, Joins Exclusive Club of Ospreys

FLORENCE, Ala. - Despite Carter Hendricksen's third 30-plus point performance in the span of four games, North Alabama's Daniel Ortiz countered with 10 three-pointers as the Lions' (13-10, 5-5 ASUN) hot shooting held off the Ospreys, 91-78, Saturday, Jan. 28.

Hendricksen eclipsed the 1,500-career point milestone with his 31-point effort, making him one of five UNF men's basketball student-athletes to reach the special mark. Jarius Hicklen, Dorian James and Jonathan Aybar all tallied double-digit scoring efforts in the loss as UNF (8-14, 3-7 ASUN) concluded play for January.

Also of note statistically, Hendricksen went 11-for-11 from the line, tied for the third-most free throws made without a miss in a single game during UNF's history. The Ospreys shot 18-for-19 from the line, the third-best single game performance in program history.

UNF outscored the Lions, 61-51 over the final 28 minutes, although UNA's 40-17 lead to start the game proved too much to overcome.

FINAL SCORE

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
1st Half
  • UNA came out of the gates shooting 7-for-10 from the floor to take a 17-6 lead, pushing UNF to take a timeout … Jonathan Aybar entered and provided four points off the bench to keep the deficit at 10 at the second media timeout … UNA's Daniel Ortiz wouldn't miss early, starting the game 7-for-7 from three as the Lions had a 40-17 lead … UNF slowed down the Lions though, forcing UNA to a scoring drought of over four minutes to cut into the deficit … the Ospreys finished the half on an 8-0 run over the final 2:39, trimming what was a much larger deficit to 10 at 44-34 UNA … Hendricksen was extremely efficient, scoring 13 points on 5-for-7 from the floor …  Ortiz missed the last four three-point attempts he took in the half, but still finished the session with 21.

2nd Half
  • UNA started the half with consecutive buckets, but UNF replied with a 6-0 run thanks to strong play in the paint, getting the game back to a single-digit margin for the first time since early in the first half … UNF and UNA traded buckets over the next media timeout as the Lions maintained their advantage at and around double-digits … UNF's offensive rebounding provided a number of extra chances through the first eight minutes of the half … UNA heated up from deep once again, but so did UNF, with Jarius Hicklen and Dorian James converting on consecutive three-pointers to get UNF within 13 at the under eight media timeout … the Lions' lead ballooned to 17, but Aybar followed with a three-pointer … Hendricksen hit two free throws out of the final media timeout, cutting the deficit to 10 … UNA made its final three field goals to stay in front.
