JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - After UNF and Jacksonville State traded runs and the lead for the majority of the game, North Florida men's basketball came up on the short end of the ledger in a 72-63 loss at Jacksonville State Thursday, Jan. 12.
The Ospreys (7-11, 2-3 ASUN) got a combined 33 points and eight treys from the efforts of
Carter Hendricksen and
Jose Placer, although the Gamecocks (8-10, 1-4 ASUN) navigated around the impressive effort. UNF committed only three turnovers, the fewest on the season and the fewest permitted in nearly nine years.
North Florida put forth a 14-0 run and JSU had an 11-0 run in a game that saw the Ospreys leading with six minutes remaining. JSU finished the final five minutes and change on a 13-4 run as the second game on the current three-game road stint came to a close.

- Placer and Hendricksen notched treys and Jadyn Parker went up for a block to help UNF to a 6-0 lead … JSU went on a quick 7-0 run to take a one-point advantage at the first media timeout … DJ got a bunny hook to go to snap JSU's scoring run as UNF trailed 13-8 at the second media timeout … JSU opened up a 23-11 lead before Jadyn Parker got to the line and hit a pair of free throws, bringing things to a 10-point difference at the under-eight media break … Hendricksen stayed hot, hitting two more treys while Placer got a floater to go, cutting the deficit to 29-20 at the final media timeout of the first … UNF's three-pointers started falling as the Ospreys went on a 9-0 run over the final two minutes of the half, getting three-pointers from Jonathan Aybar, Chaz Lanier and Placer to get within 31-29 at the break.
2nd Half
- UNF used a pair of transition buckets, one on a trey from Jarius Hicklen and another on a layup from Oscar Berry for a 5-0 run and 34-31 lead shortly into the second half … it was UNF's first lead since leading 6-5 in the first half … after JSU regained a brief two-point lead, Hendricksen got behind the defense for a dunk to tie things 39-39 … Placer went behind the back off a screen and nailed a trey for the three-point lead … James and Lanier added to the lead with consecutive scores as UNF had a 46-41 lead under 12 minutes to go … UNF and JSU traded treys as things were knotted at 53-53 at the under-eight media timeout … JSU climbed to a 62-58 lead after a three-pointer, its largest lead of the second half coming just before the final media timeout … down 64-60, UNF put together a huge stand to force JSU into a shot clock violation … the Gamecocks were able to get enough stops and free throws late to hold on.
