Introduce Yourself
What sport do you play
How did you first get involved with playing sports?
It's always been a family thing. I grew up watching my uncle play basketball at Indiana State.
Was there any inspiration or role model that got you playing sports?
My uncle Matt, he played basketball at Indiana State. My parents took us to every game, home or away. Ever since then I wanted to play college basketball.
How long did you have the dream/goal to play college athletics?
Ever since I really got involved in the sport, which was around the 6th grade.
How has being a student-athlete impacted your college experience? How has it impacted your personal growth?
For my personal growth it has taught me a lot, like leadership, overcoming adversity, sticking up for myself and how to work with others from all different backgrounds. For my college experience it had taught me how to manage my time very well, with balancing practice, games and travel with school work.
What does being a student-athlete do for life opportunities?
It shows that you can work with a lot of different types of people. I think that it shows you can overcome many obstacles and you are hard working; that can go a long way when trying to find a job.
What work still needs to be done to enhance opportunities for women in sports?
We need to be seen as equals to men's athletics. We put in the same work, for the same amount of hours and maybe even more just to prove to everyone around us that we are as good as men's programs.
In your opinion, what needs to be improved to enhance the coverage of women in sports?
I think that in terms of what every team gets it should be the same, regardless of gender. No one should get more gear then the other or better meals or hotels.
What are your goals after college?
First I want to try to play basketball overseas, but if that doesn't work then I want to become a physical therapist.
What advice would you give to girls in youth sports that are aspiring to be a college athlete/pro athlete or work in athletics?
Work hard, get in the gym extra and never let anyone tell you that you can't do something because you are a girl. You can do anything you set your mind to. Lastly, consistency is key. Be consistent with your hard work and it will pay off.
