JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - If there's one ingredient to really make a Senior Day special, it's a win. Friday North Florida men's tennis not only made sure to do that, but also did so by the way of a 7-0 sweep of visiting North Alabama (3-14, 1-4 ASUN) April 8 in the home finale.
The Ospreys honored
Nilo Duarte,
Joe Ellis and
Jorge Nunez prior to the match, recognizing a group that has tallied 14-combined seasons of experience in the Navy and Gray.
With the win, North Florida (14-6, 5-1 ASUN) finished out the home season 9-1, while improving to 14-6 on the year and 5-1 in the conference.
How it Happened
North Florida men's tennis didn't drop a single set between doubles and singles play, dominating North Alabama from the opening serve to the final point.
Duarte, Ellis and Nunez all got in on the mix, combining to win five singles and doubles matches. Ellis dropped just one game in his win at the sixth slot, while taking home the clinching doubles court with
Rodrigo Crespo.
No. 72
Dominik Barton played at the third slot, the highest in the order that he has played this spring season. Freshman
Breno Marques took home the clinching court, winning 6-4, 6-1 at the fifth slot.
