CLEMSON, S.C. - After a tightly contested doubles point went in Clemson's favor, the host Tigers (5-2) pulled away in singles play as North Florida men's tennis (2-4) concluded its weekend road swing in the Carolinas with a 6-1 loss to Clemson Sunday, Feb. 13.
Jonas Hartenstein nabbed a win at one singles and North Florida nearly grabbed two more singles points before falling in two ten-point tiebreakers.
How it Happened
Clemson took second doubles, 6-1, but UNF was dead even at both first and third doubles late into the respective matches. After a 4-4 tie at one doubles and 5-5 at three doubles, Clemson pulled ahead to take three doubles, 7-5.
Jonas Hartenstein and
Jorge Nunez showed resolve to grab the first set of singles play at their respective courts. Clemson pulled ahead to clinch the match with straight-sets wins at the second, third and sixth slots.
The remaining courts went to three sets. Nunez and
Bruno Vietri came up just short by the slimmest of margins in 10-point tiebreaker competition. Hartenstein was the victor at one singles though, winning 10-8 in his 10-point tiebreaker against Ryuhei Azuma.
