Stellar Performances Help Ospreys in Rout of Trinity Baptist, 112-38

Six Players Reach Double-Digit Scoring Figures

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida women's basketball (3-5) showed out with numerous exceptional performances, as nine student-athletes matched or surpassed season-high marks in either points, rebounds or assists, in a win against Trinity Baptist (3-7), 112-38, on Friday evening at the UNF Arena.

During their final home non-conference game of the season, as well as the last home game of the 2022 calendar year, the Ospreys broke the century mark in scoring for the first time on the season. It was the first time that the Ospreys have scored more than 100 points since playing against the Eagles last year.

On the night she was honored for 1,000 collegiate career points, Lyric Swann dropped a season-high mark of 27 points to go along with seven rebounds, five assists and four steals. The redshirt junior was the team's leading scorer for a seventh time this year, while also recording a score in her 40th consecutive collegiate game.

Jaelyn Swann recorded the first double-double of her career with a season-high 18 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. She joined forces with her sister to combine for 45 points, 17 rebounds, eight assists and six steals on the night. Emma Broermann, Elysa Wesolek, Maddie Millar and Kaila Rougier all added double-digit scoring nights.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

First Half: The Ospreys started the game with with six straight points off three layups to grab the lead early...Kaila Rougier dished out a no-look assist to L. Swann, followed by a three-pointer from Maddie Millar to expand their lead to 12 points...another three was made from J. Swann right before the end of the first quarter to go up by 16...J. Swann carried her momentum into the next period with back-to-back from beyond the arc...two more threes were made from Rougier and Millar to go up 35-8...Broermann busted through the defense for another layup and Millar made her third three-pointer of the night to take a 47-16 lead into the break.

Second Half: UNF started the second half identical to their first half with three straight field goals...Broermann came out on fire as well with three of the next four field goals being layups to go up by 42 points...the Ospreys finished the third quarter on a 24-11 run to take a 80-31 lead into the final period...to start the fourth, Broermann and Sarah Taub made layups followed with five quick points from J. Swann to expand on a 11-0 run to start the fourth...Elysa Wesolek found her rhythm throughout the final quarter with back-to-back field goals...a pair of free throws from J. Swann helped UNF surpass the 100-point mark for the first time on the year...a 20-2 run to end the game pushed the Ospreys to a 112-38 victory in their non-conference home finale.

NOTES

  • Four other players joined the Swann sisters in double-digit scoring on Friday evening.
  • Emma Broermann notched her second double-double in the past three games with 18 points and 12 boards.
  • Elysa Wesolek put up buckets late in the game to secure a new career-high mark in points and rebounds for the graduate transfer.
  • Helena Rafnsdottir had 10 rebounds and was two assists shy of being the third Osprey on the night to reach the double-double feature.
  • The Reykjanesbaer, Iceland, native recorded the first block of her career as well with two on Friday.
  • Fellow freshmen Maddie Millar and Sarah Taub also had great performances, as Millar set season-highs in points, assists and steals, while Taub had her best marks on the year in assists.
  • Selma Eklund saw time to be the seventh Osprey to hit their season-best in rebounds.
  • UNF hit their season-high as a team for the most points in the first and second halves, as well as the second and third quarters.
  • Forced 35 free throw attempts against TBC after only having 31 combined over the past four games.
  • The Ospreys were bullies on the board, out-rebounding TBC, 66-29, which is a new D-I program game record.
  • Also lead in big margins over the Eagles in points from fast breaks (46-0), in the paint (54-8) and off turnovers (37-2).
  • Did not trail for the entirety of the game and held the lead for 39 minutes and 41 seconds.

UNF will have over a week to prepare for road trips against Auburn and Alabama on Tuesday, Dec. 20 and Thursday, Dec. 22, with both tip-off times set for 1 p.m. EST.
