Ospreys Just Short in Fast-Paced Seesaw Contest at High Point

North Florida Leads For Majority of Game, Panthers Slip By in Final Minutes

HIGH POINT, N.C. - The Ospreys had a potential game-tying three-pointer roll off the rim with under 10 seconds to go in the game as UNF men's basketball (2-5) came up on the short end of a fast-paced battle at High Point (7-1), 93-88, Saturday, Dec. 3.

UNF and High Point went after it for all 40 minutes, trading blows until the final whistle when the Panthers pulled ahead. North Florida had the upperhand for the majority of the game, leading for over 23 minutes while HPU had the lead for just under nine.

Carter Hendricksen earned every bit of his double-double, posting 22 points and 11 rebounds. Jadyn Parker and Jarius Hicklen also found themselves in double figures, with Hicklen tallying five three-pointers.

The Panthers benefited from trips to the line, posting 29 points from the free throw line Saturday. All told, the game saw 14 tie scores and 11 lead changes.

  • Parker and Hicklen combined to put UNF on a 5-0 run to start the second half … Chaz Lanier made a few solid plays in the post and sunk a three as UNF held the lead, 62-57, at the first media timeout of the second half … HPU got a few stops and eventually took a 64-62 lead after a 6-0 run … both sides traded buckets down low as the game was knotted at 68 at the second media timeout … HPU took a brief lead, 74-71, with just under nine minutes left … but, Aybar sank a transition three to tie it … Hicklen responded with a big trey after a James block at the other end … HPU held a slim, 81-80, lead at the final media timeout … Hicklen drilled a crucial game-tying three-pointer with 2:11 to go, tying things at 83 … HPU got a layup and a dunk to take a four-point lead with a minute to go … Hicklen made both free throws on a one-and-one to get UNF within two, but HPU converted on a tough bucket to create a 89-85 lead … Hendricksen was fouled on a three-pointer and made all three to get UNF within one, 89-88, with 12.1 seconds to go … HPU made two free throws to create a 91-88 lead … UNF got one last look but Hicklen's three-point attempt rolled off the rim.
