JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Ospreys led for over 16 minutes of the second half, but it was the final few that counted as North Florida women's basketball was edged late by the visiting Dolphins, 52-50, Saturday, Jan. 15 in round one of the River City Rumble.
Moving ahead to late in the final frame,
Rhetta Moore hit a go-ahead layup with 1:16 to go in the game, giving UNF (7-9, 0-4 ASUN) a 50-49 lead. The Dolphins (9-5, 2-1 ASUN) responded by tying it at 50-50 from the free throw line, and eventually winning the game from the same spot thanks to two free throws from Taylor Hawks with 10 seconds to go.
UNF had one last chance, but a
Jazz Bond three-pointer went wide as time expired.

Beyond the Box Score
- First Quarter: JU came out of the gate strong, creating a 10-3 lead, its largest of the game … UNF responded though … Jazz Bond went 2-for-3 from beyond the arc off the bench as UNF's bench produced 11 points in the first quarter for a slim 16-14 UNF lead.
- Second Quarter: Baskets were extremely hard to come by for both sides in the second period as Jacksonville and UNF combined to shoot 6-for-29 … neither team scored a point off a fast break or a point off a turnover in the second … a Kaila Rougier three-pointer with 12 seconds left gave the Ospreys some momentum heading into the half.
- Third Quarter: Summah Evans, Emma Broermann and Jazz Bond did all of UNF's scoring in the third … the trio combined for 17 points on 7-for-9 shooting as the Ospreys led for nearly eight minutes of the third frame … North Florida closed the session on a high note once more thanks to a three-pointer at the top of the key from Jazz Bond.
- Fourth Quarter: Up 42-39, Moore made a three-pointer and Tatiana Thompson followed with a free throw just over a minute later, giving the Ospreys a 46-39 advantage, their largest of the game up to that point … a few moments later, Jazz Bond hit a pull up jumper to push the lead back to seven at 48-41 … that's when the tide turned as JU went on an 11-2 run the rest of the way and UNF was scoreless for nearly four minutes.
