Smith's Tally Leads Ospreys Past Stetson

DeLAND, Fla. - North Florida tallied a goal in the first seven minutes of the game as men's soccer grabbed a 1-0 win at Stetson Saturday evening.

GOALS

7' | Bryson Smith (Cormac Begley)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Shortly into the opening frame, Cormac Begley took the ball to the Hatters goal line on the left side. The Hatters defense was convinced it was out, but the Ospreys knew to play to the whistle. Begley slipped the ball inside the six-yard box where Bryson Smith beat his defender and bounced the ball into the top of the net for the 1-0 lead.
  • Late in the first half, Jovoney Brown had a 1v1 situation with a defender, but shot the ball just wide on the right.
  • The Hatters owned a 6-3 edge after the opening 45 minutes, but UNF keeper Padraic Gilley only had to make one save.
  • North Florida had its best chance for a 2-0 lead in the 76th minute when Zach Board sent a shot at the Hatters' keeper.
  • In the 80th minute, Stetson looked to have the equalizer, but Gilley came up with the save in the left side of the net.
