Five Things: Softball Travels to USF, Stetson


JACKSONVILLE - North Florida travels to USF for a doubleheader Wednesday before traveling to DeLand to continue ASUN play against Stetson with the three-game series beginning on Saturday.
 

WHAT TO KNOW

  • UNF (10-13) topped No. 20 UCF in game one with a 9-7 win. Ashley Goebel got an RBI double to put the Ospreys on the board, while Paige Pfent found her second homerun of the game to help the Ospreys keep lead. with the game knotted in the final frame, Rebecca Koskey hit a three-run bomb to win the game for UNF. The Ospreys fell short in game two in a 9-1 loss.
  • North Florida traveled to FGCU for an ASUN series, but the Eagles took all three-games. The Ospreys are now 2-4 in ASUN play.
  • Ashley Goebel holds the leading batting average (.362) and ranks fifth in the ASUN. 
  • Kayla McGory tallied two home runs in three games to lead the team in RBI (13) and rank 15th in the league.
  • In the circle, Halle Arends is in the top four in the ASUN in ERA (1.55), while Morgan Clausen is sixth in total strikeouts (47).
 

OPPONENT NOTES

USF (8-6)
  • Hitting .400, Bethaney Keene leads the team with 16 hits and 11 RBI. 
  • USF is coming off of a sweep against North Dakota. Georgina Corrick threw a no-hitter Saturday with 13 strikeouts and two walks. Corrick was named American Athletics Pitcher of the Week for the third time in season.
  • Megan Pierro leads the team in walks, while also owning  a.357 average on the season.
  • The Bulls own a 3-0 series edge against UNF with the last meeting coming in shutout fashion, 8-0 (5) on March 18, 2018.

STETSON (4-11, 0-5 ASUN)
  • Stetson is looking for its first win after getting swept by FGCU and Jacksonville. The final game against JU was canceled due to weather. The Hatters picked up wins at home against South Dakota on March 10.
  • Riley Russell tops the team with a .341 average, 14 hits, 10 walks and 13 stolen bases.
  • Jordyn Stanfill tops the team with 13 RBI.
  • In the circle, Chloe Temples is the main hurler with 45 strikeouts in 52.0 innings pitch. She owns a 4.44 ERA in eight appearances with 2-6 record.
  • UNF owns a 22-15 series record against the Hatters and is currently on a four-game win streak. The Ospreys shutout Stetson in 2019 in the final regular season games. Stetson has only scored six runs in the last six games vs. UNF.
