JACKSONVILLE - North Florida women's basketball enters the ASUN Tournament as the No. 3 seed - its highest in program history - as it faces off with North Alabama in the quarterfinals at 7 p.m.
FIVE THINGS TO KNOW
- North Florida posted its best finish in ASUN history to earn the No. 3 seed. The Ospreys face North Alabama for the second time in three seasons. UNF beat UNA in the 2019 quarterfinals, 55-53, in Florence.
- Senior Jazz Bond earned the ASUN Defensive Player of the Year, Rhetta Moore was named Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Bond and Marissa Mackins garnered All-ASUN First Team.
- Bond and sister Jaida face off for the third time this season. The pair prepped at Blackman High School. Jaida earned All-ASUN second team honors after averaging 14.7 points per game and leading the ASUN in minutes/gm.
- The Ospreys broke the UNF record for 3-pointers made in a season with 217 - besting last year's record of 211. North Florida is 9th in 3PTM, 10th in 3PT/GM (9.4) and 24th in 3PT% (37.0).
- North Florida is 6-10 overall in ASUN Tournament games and are 3-6 under Coach Gibbs.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- North Alabama has lost five of its last seven games and only swept Jacksonville and Kennesaw State this season. The Lions are 7-17 overall with a 6-9 mark.
- Jaida Bond was selected to the ASUN All-Conference second team after leading her team with 14.7 points/gm.
- Joining her in double digits is Jaila Roberts (12.3) and ASUN Freshman of the Year Sakyia White (10.8). White also leads the team off the glass with 9.3 boards per game.
- The team is shooting 41 percent from the floor and averaging 69.1 ppg.
UP NEXT
With a win, North Florida heads to its fourth straight ASUN semifinal in search of a win. The highest remaining seed and lowest face off while the second highest and second lowest would play Friday.
