Softball Sweeps Georgia Southern with One-Run Games

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida softball grabs a pair of wins against Georgia Southern, 6-5 and 3-2 Saturday at the UNF Softball Complex. The Ospreys move to 4-5 on the year, while GS falls to 1-7.

Game 1 - UNF 6, GS 5

Save | Halle Arends (1) 2.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 3 K

How it Happened

  • Back-to-back errors on Taylor Engman and Kayla McGory's at bats allowed two runners to reach base. McGory then stole second to put runners in scoring position. A groundout allowed Engman to come home for the 1-0 lead.
  • The next inning, Brittany Sundermeier had a sac fly to score Ashley Goebel who hit a double to lead off the inning.
  • Georgia Southern scored on an RBI double for a 2-1 game in the third.
  • In the fourth, Sundermeier had her second RBI, scoring Goebel who reached on a hit. McGory then doubled down the line to score Engman and Sundermeier. A final hit from Shannon Glover brought in McGory for the 6-1 lead.
  • The Eagles were not done as they added runs to their line in the fifth and seventh to make it a 6-5 game.
  • In the seventh, Georgia Southern was trying to get the tying run, but the Osprey defense created a successful outfield relay to get the runner at home and close down the inning.

How it Happened

  • In the final inning, Goebel led off with a single before moving to second on a Koskey single. A walk then loaded the bases for Engman to win the game with a sac fly and secure the sweep.
