JACKSONVILLE - North Florida women's basketball heads to FGCU this weekend, looking to upset the ASUN conference leader and move up in the ASUN standings. The Eagles are just outside the Top 25 poll and ranked No. 5 in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25.
FIVE THINGS TO KNOW
- North Florida hopes to record their 10th ASUN conference win of the season, making it the second consecutive season in the Gibbs era with double-digit conference wins.
- Senior Jazz Bond ranks 65th in the NCAA and 2nd in the ASUN in points/gm with 18.3. At the moment she is first in UNF's season record.
- In ASUN games, North Florida is third in total points, assists/game and blocks/game, while ranking first in 3PT%.
- The Ospreys continue to rank in the top 20 in the NCAA several three-point categories including 8th in three-pointers made with 193. UNF is 6th in 3PT/game (10.2) and 17th in 3PT% (37.6%). Junior Marissa Mackins ranks 15th in Division I in 3PM (57).
- Head Coach Darrick Gibbs is seeking his second career win against FGCU, and the team's first since February 2018.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- FGCU is undefeated in ASUN Conference games, boasting a 12-0 record. The Eagles hold the nation's longest road winning streak with 21 wins and currently have 18 straight wins overall.
- Kierstan Bell leads the ASUN with 25.2 points per game. She has now won both ASUN Player & Newcomer of the Week for the past four consecutive weeks.
- In its game against JU last weekend, Bell set FGCU's single-game scoring record, notching 42 points. She broke Davion Wingate's previous single-game record of 38 points.
- As a team, the Eagles are shooting 46 percent from the floor and 34 percent from long range. They continue to lead the league in three-pointers made per game (11.7), just ahead of North Florida (10.2).
UP NEXT
North Florida travels to Louisville, Ky. to face Bellarmine, Friday, March 5 and Saturday, March 6. These are the Ospreys' last two regular season games before they head to Kennesaw, Ga. to play in the ASUN Conference Championship.
