JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UNF Volleyball got something from everyone it put out on the court as the Ospreys (2-5, 1-0 ASUN) defeated ASUN Preseason favorite FGCU (2-1, 0-1 ASUN), 3-1, Sunday, February 14. 

Gabby O'Connell went for 15 kills and 15 digs, while Julianna Askew tallied a season-high 48 assists to go with 11 digs. Solimar Cestero and Bre Walp were efficient all afternoon, both having double-digit kill performances. 

It's UNF's first win against FGCU since the 2017 campaign.

Inside the Sets

• Set 1: UNF took a 4-3 lead and held it for the first half of the set until FGCU tied things up at 15 … Walp tallied a kill, starting a 4-0 run to put UNF ahead, 19-15 … FGCU got within one on multiple occasions, but Maddie Boyd and O'Connell combined for three straight kills to close the session.
• Set 2: Set two was the tightest of the afternoon, seeing 12 tie scores and five lead changes … FGCU hit .280 to UNF's .220, proving to be the difference … Askew had 14 assists, O'Connell had eight kills but late UNF attack errors cost UNF.
• Set 3: The Ospreys hit a sparkling .321, putting up 15 kills to get the 2-1 set advantage … FGCU led, 21-20, but FGCU's Erin Shomaker committed an error ... a FGCU kill followed by an error tied things again before UNF won three of the final four points.
• Set 4: Kailey McKnight and Cestero had four kills, while Walp had three as the Ospreys closed the door on FGCU in set four … after getting a 10-9 lead, UNF never looked back.

"It [the win] feels great. Matt Botsford does an outstanding job with his program. They're a great program, but our squad just played better today. The quality of our opponents has prepared us for the ASUN and everyone did their job. We weren't perfect but we were resilient coming off of the Clemson match and right into this match. Leadership really stood out to me today and we did our best when our best was needed."
