Women's Basketball Heads to Athens for Wednesday Matinee

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UNF women's basketball makes its final stop on a challenging five-game road stint when it heads to No. 21/17 Georgia for a noon tip-off Wednesday, Dec. 8 from Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, Ga.

SERIES HISTORY
This is just the second meeting between UNF and Georgia in series history ... the Ospreys and Bulldogs met previously Dec. 28, 2017 in Athens, Ga. ... North Florida is taking on its fourth Power Five foe of the year and second SEC opponent after battling Auburn Nov. 30.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Georgia comes in ranked No. 21 in the latest AP Poll and is 17th in the USA Today Poll as of Monday, Dec. 6 ... Georgia is 7-1 and coming off its first loss of the season, a 55-54 defeat at the hands of Georgia Tech at home Sunday, Dec. 5 ... Georgia is coached by seventh year head coach Joni Taylor who is 126-66 in her time at UGA ... the Bulldogs have won 15 of their last 19 games dating back to last season ... Georgia became just one of two SEC programs (Tennessee being the other school) to reach 1,000 wins as a program ... just 16 programs nationwide have done  so ... Georgia's defense has been the straw that stirs the drink this year ... UGA ranks third in the nation in steals per game (10.0) and 2nd in blocks/game (7.5) ... Jenna Staiti is UGA's go-to all-round asset, leading the team in points/game (12.4), rebounds/game (7.8) and blocks/game (1.8) ... Georgia has earned wins against Gardner-Webb, Furman, Mercer, Alabama State, Notre Dame, Marquette and Texas Tech this season.

8 BLOCKS
Jazz Bond did the remarkable and blocked 12 percent of FIU's field goal attempts Saturday at Florida International. Bond's eight blocks ties a UNF single-game record, previously set by her in 2020. 

On 19 different occasions, Bond has blocked at least five shots. She ranks fourth in all divisions of NCAA Women's Basketball in career blocks with 236. She ranks fourth among active Division I women's basketball players in that category as well. 

FOR THE RECORD
UNF swatted 10 shots at FIU, setting the program Division I-era single game record. The mark ties UNF's program record, previously set against Valdosta State, Dec. 4, 1994.

ROADIES
UNF is in game five of five of its road trip. The last time UNF was at home was Nov. 21 when it defeated FAU in overtime at the UNF Arena. Since then UNF has gone to play at Clemson, Charleston, Auburn, FIU and now Georgia. 

Jazz Bond is averaging 20.3 points, 7 rebounds and 3.8 blocks per game on the current road trip. UNF is shooting 47.2 percent from the floor and 36 percent from three-point land during the road trip, both clips better than its opponents.

ALL THAT JAZZ 'N MOORE
Jazz Bond and Rhetta Moore have paced the Ospreys in the scoring column this year. Bond is 11th in the country in total points at 179, while Moore is 39th in the country and third in the ASUN with 150 total points. Bond is coming off a 30-point game at FIU, while Moore set the UNF-single game points record with 37 earlier this season.

DEBUT
Freshman guard Kaila Rougier became the 12th Osprey to see time this year after making her UNF and collegiate debut Nov. 30 at Auburn. Rougier scored eight points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished out four assists at FIU Saturday, Dec. 4. 

DOUBLE TROUBLE
Jazz Bond ranks 39th in the nation among active NCAA Division I Women's Basketball players in double-doubles with 23 for her career. She has three this year. She's scored at least 10 points in all nine games this year.

FIZZLE SIZZLE
Forward Jazz Bond averaged 22.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game last week en route to her sixth-career ASUN Player of the Week award. She's been named to the award twice this season.

She also moved into third place in UNF-career history for points (1,325 and field goals (481) recently.

Jazz Bond leads the ASUN in blocks (24) and is 10th in DI. Her 2.67 blocks/gm is also 1st in the ASUN and 13th in DI.
