Ospreys Drop Heartbreaker in Double Overtime at Bellarmine

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - North Florida men's soccer (2-5-1) was able to force overtime in the 84th minute with a header goal from freshman Joaquin Acuna, but couldn't close it out late with a 2-1 double-overtime defeat in a conference battle at Bellarmine (5-4-1).

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The UNF defense held Bellarmine shotless through the first 15 minutes of the game, but allowed the first goal of the night to be scored to the Knights in the 18th minute.
  • Goalkeeper Padraic Gilley had four saves in the first half to keep the Osprey deficit at one goal going into halftime.
  • In the second half, UNF outshot Bellarmine, 10-6, with three on goal after being held to zero shots in the first half.
  • All seemed final for the Ospreys in the closing minutes until senior Igor Martins crossed a beautiful pass into the box for freshman phenom Joaquin Acuna to head in for the equalizer.
  • In the second period of extra time, Bellarmine was able to put in their second goal of the game to capture the win in double overtime.

FROM THE MOUTH OF MARINATOS

"Heartbreaking loss tonight. Gave up an early goal again and had to chase the game. Did a great job of fighting back and making it 1-1. Cruel to not get a least a point." -- head coach Derek Marinatos
