Slow Start Hampers Ospreys

JACKSONVILLE - North Florida women's basketball came out flat and it proved to be the difference as Stetson won, 60-52, Monday to snap the Ospreys four-game win streak.

Ospreys of the Game
SWOOP of the Game
Rhetta Moore, in her first career start, hit a triple to give North Florida (13-9, 6-3 ASUN) its only lead of the game, 38-32. She finished with eight points.

Turning Point
Stetson (10-12, 4-6 ASUN) had a 7-0 run down the stretch to put the game out of reach as they held UNF to just one field goal in the final 40 seconds of the game.

INSIDE THE GAME
  • Stetson used a 14-2 run to take a 20-9 run before Adrienne Jackson converted a three-point play to pull back within single digits.
  • The Hatters kept the Ospreys off the board for the final 1:45 of the quarter to own a 22-12 lead after one.
  • It was a back-and-forth game early in the second before both teams went cold, not scoring for almost three minutes.
  • Tiffany Tolbert broke the drought to start a 7-0 run for UNF that was capped by a triple from Bond as time expired to make it 29-23 in favor of Stetson at the break.
  • After trading baskets to open the third, North Florida jumped on an 12-2 run to give the Ospreys its first lead of the game, 38-36. Stetson converted a three-point play to take back the advantage, 39-38 after three.
  • Stetson pushed its lead back to seven, 49-42 early in the fourth before UNF used a 7-2 run to close within 51-49.
  • It was short lived as the Hatters hit a three on the other side and then went 3-for-4 from the line to push its lead back to eight where it remained.
  • North Florida was held to just one field goal in the final two minutes thanks to a triple from Tolbert.

Osprey Fast Breaks
  • North Florida had not lost a first quarter since playing at Jacksonville (Jan. 20). UNF is now 2-8 when getting outscored in the first quarter.
  • The Ospreys grabbed 11 offensive boards, leading to 19 second chance points - their most against a Division I opponent this season.
  • With four blocks tonight, Bond moves into second in the North Florida record book with 109 career blocks. She is behind Lakira Jones' 147.
  • Jackson finished with six points to move into 12th all-time in UNF scoring. She now has 835 points. In the Ospreys' Division I record she is now fifth in scoring and fourth in rebounds.

North Florida now heads out on the road to begin the second half of ASUN play beginning with first-place FGCU who was recently ranked No. 24 in the national poll.
