JACKSONVILLE - North Florida women's basketball heads back out on the road to wrap up 2020 with its next stop at Auburn for the first meeting between the two teams. The Ospreys take on the Tigers, Thursday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. EST.
FIVE THINGS TO KNOW
- North Florida is looking for its third straight win, its first against an SEC opponent and its first road victory as it heads to Auburn. UNF last faced an SEC team in 2018 when it played at Ole Miss.
- In the win against Edward Waters, four players scored in double figures for the first time this season including Emma Broermann who had a career-best 26 points with 11 rebounds for her first-ever career double-double.
- The team is in the top 10 in the NCAA in three-pointers made and three-pointers/game. They are second in the ASUN in both categories behind FGCU. UNF has 54 3PTM on the season.
- Junior Marissa Mackins was 6-for-6 from long range against Edward Waters and now ranks in the top 10 in 3PT Made (20) and 10th in 3PT/game (4.0) in the NCAA.
- Freshmen Nubia Benedith and Summah Evans made their first career starts against Edward Waters. Benedith came out with 9 pts, 5 assists and 5 steals, while Evans narrowly missed a double-double with 11 pts and 9 reb.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
AUBURN
- Auburn hosts Stephen. F. Austin on Wednesday before taking on the Ospreys. The Tigers are currently 4-1, averaging 76.0 points/game.
- The Tigers are second in the SEC and rank 14th nationally in steals per game at 13.0.
- Unique Thompson leads the team, averaging a double-double with 20 points and 13.4 rebounds through five games; she also has four double-doubles on the season. Thompson is Auburn's lone returning starter.
- Of the 15 players on the roster, 10 of them wore an Auburn uniform for the first time in game action vs. USC Upstate. All 10 newcomers saw the floor in the Tigers' 82-41 win on Nov. 25 and again vs. Gardner-Webb on Dec. 1.
- The Tigers are coming off at 74-66 win over South Alabama that saw Auburn, with just 10 players dressed, fight back from a 12-point deficit to remain unbeaten at home on the season.
UP NEXT
North Florida ends 2020 with a trip to another SEC foe as the Ospreys take on Florida on Monday, Dec. 21. The teams have not met since 2014.
