Nevoric Scores First Career Goal in Tie vs. FGCU

JACKSONVILLE – Sophomore Mirza Nevoric scored his first career goal as North Florida men's soccer tied FGCU, 1-1, on Saturday evening at Hodges Stadium to remain undefeated in ASUN play.

GOALS
FGCU 28' | Shake Adams (unassisted)
UNF 71' | Mirza Nevorci (Robbie Soronellas)

HOW IT HAPPENED
- FGCU attacked the Ospreys zone and sent several close balls that were deflected by the UNF defense in the 16th minute. FGCU's Max Edwards then put a foot on the ball, but Padraic Gilley came up with the save.
- In the 19th minute, freshman Bendeguz Burka had the Ospreys best chance in the opening minutes, heading it into the center of the Eagles net, but the defense knocked it out of the box to end the chance.
- The Eagles tallied their goal when Shak Adams fired a shot 25 yards out and buried it into the left side of the net for the 1-0 advantage
- North Florida evened the game in the 71st minute when Adam Everett took the ball wide and tapped the ball to Nick Lodovico. He sent a shot to the Eagles keeper who kicked it away, but was gathered by freshman Robbie Soronellas. Soronellas then sent a perfect pass across the six-yard box to allow Mirza Nevoric to head it home for the 1-1 tie.
- FGCU tried to go up in the 77th minute when Ivan Rosales fired a shot, but Gilley came up with a huge save to crush the chance.
- With the score knotted, extra time was needed. Cormac Begley had the Ospreys best chance in the 94th minute when he hit a header that slipped just over the upper left corner of the net.
- In the 96th and 97th minute, UNF had two chances from Taylor Martin and Bendeguz, but both went high.
- UNF had four shots in the first overtime and two in the second.

- Bendeguz Burka led the team with four shots, while Collin Scott tallied three.
- FGCU owned a 5-1 edge in shots in the opening 45 minutes.

FROM THE MOUTH OF MARINATOS
"I think that once you go up a man in the second half and you get the tying goal you want to come away with three points at home, and I think they escaped with point. At the end of the day it was a good game and I think they had the better end of play in the first half and we did much better in the second half and created a lot of chances. We have to get sharper in some key areas and be more dangerous on our set pieces, but we got a point at home and are undefeated in conference."

UP NEXT
North Florida now heads out on the road, but doesn't have to go far for its next ASUN match. The Ospreys travel to Jacksonville on Saturday, Oct. 5 for a 7 p.m. match.
