Ospreys Top SC State Thanks to Trio of Second Half Goals

UNF-SCSU Boxscore

JACKSONVILLE -- The North Florida women's soccer used a three-goal barrage over a 10-minute stretch in Thursday's second half to close out a 4-0 shutout victory against South Carolina State in the squad's final non-conference contest of the season.

RECORDS
North Florida | 6-3-1
South Carolina State | 1-7-0

GOALS
UNF - 16' | Thais Reiss (Sydney Hauth)
UNF - 75' | Leah Ferlin (Lisa Cedeno)
UNF - 78' | Karina Bermudez (Emma Voigt)
UNF - 86' | Chanelle Bubb (Karina Bermudez)

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Ospreys controlled possession of the ball in the opening stanza but were unable to find a consistent offensive flow with four offside penalities through the first 15 minutes of action
- North Florida eventually made a solid connection as Thais Reiss and Sydney Hauth orchestrated a well-played give-and-go in the 16th minute to put UNF on the scoreboard | Hauth slipped a return pass to a streaking Reiss, who wove through several South Carolina State defenders before driving a shot past a diving goalkeeper just inside the right post
- Emma Voigt entered the game midway through the first period and generated a quality scoring chance in the 34th minute, but the SCSU keeper fended off the chance to keep the one goal differential
- UNF held a 7-1 advantage in shot attempts thru the first 45 minutes of play | Ospreys finished with eight offsides in the first half
- North Florida charged out of the break with a new found aggressiveness on the offensive end
- Voigt mounted another opportunity just two minutes into the second half, only to see the keeper pushed her shot from the middle of the box over the top of the crossbar
- A couple minutes later, Devyn Encalada got free in the box and had her shot just skirt wide of the goal while Voigt had a bounding shot sail just left of the goal in the 50th minute
- With the 20th shot of the night, the Ospreys doubled their lead when Lisa Cedeno crossed a pass to the top of the box where Leah Ferlin lashed the ball into the net in the 75th minute
- Voigt's forward play eventually paid off as her service in the 77th minute found Karina Bermudez at the back post for a one-timer, giving North Florida the 3-0 lead
- Redshirt junior Chanelle Bubb closed the scoring in the 86th as she collected the rebound of a Bermudez shot of the post and tucked it back into the net
- North Florida finished the night with a 27-1 margin in shot attempts (20-0 in the second half) | UNF had 13 shots on goal
- Rhiannon Conelley started the night in goal with Kelli Crowley manning the net for UNF in the second half

QUICK KICKS
- Reiss upped her team leading goal tally to eight for the season | She became just the fourth player in UNF's Division I era to reach the 20-goal plateau
- Ferlin's goal was her fourth of the year while Bermudez and Bubb each netted their first goals of the year
- Bubb's goal was the first of her career
- Bermudez matched her career totals for goals and assists
- Goalkeeper duo produced the squad's third shutout of the year
- Ospreys have produced multiple goals in eight of 10 games
- North Florida finished its non-conference schedule with six wins, which equals the program record for non-conference victories in the DI era | Ospreys had six non-conference wins in 2017 and 2006

FAULCONER TALES
"We did enough tonight to get the job done, but we will definitely need to clean up some things before hosting Liberty on Sunday. I am really happy to see Chanelle Bubb score her first collegiate goal tonight. She has overcome quite a lot in regards to injuries over the past several seasons, so it's always nice to see someone rewarded for their perserverance and hard work." - Head coach Eric Faulconer
