FORT MYERS, Fla. - After postponements and early mornings, the postseason magic wore off as top-seeded Lipscomb defeated six-seeded North Florida softball. 8-2, in the ASUN Championship game on Saturday afternoon at the FGCU Softball Complex.
For their performances during the tournament - freshmen
Morgan Clausen and
Paige Pfent, along with senior
Navia Penrod earned All-Tournament honors. It is the second time Penrod has earned the postseason accolade.
The Ospreys went 4-2 in the tournament and closed out the season going 7-2. UNF became the first six-seeded ASUN team since 2001 (Troy) to reach the ASUN Championship game and it was the first time North Florida has advanced to the tournament title contest.

Sydney Matzko and
Megan Woodson.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- North Florida (30-24) struck first when Rindy Bryant scored on an errant throw on a steal attempt.
- Lipscomb (41-13-1) answered back with three runs on a hit-by-pitch, two walks and two hits for a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second.
- The Lady Bisons held onto their advantage and added to it with a run in the fifth and four more in the sixth.
- The Ospreys tried to get a rally going in the fifth when Paige Pfent led off with a single before being replaced by Katelin Davis.
- Veronika Klimplova doubled to put two on in front of Taylor Engman, who sent a single down the line to score Davis. The Ospreys tried to be aggressive on the base paths, but Lipscomb applied the tag at home to end the inning.
- Lipscomb hurler and tournament MVP Mandy Jordan finished a complete game allowing just four hits, one earned run and tallying two strikeouts.
NOTES
- North Florida had to play 19 innings on the last day of the tournament due to schedule adjustments throughout the week. The final game marked Lipscomb's first of the day having rested since its game against Liberty finished at 1 p.m. on Friday.
- UNF defeated each ASUN team at least once this season.
- For the tournament, Penrod hit .619 on 13-for-21 with five runs scored and three stolen bases. Clausen put up a 1.00 ERA in 14.0 innings of work with a 1-1 record, seven strikeouts and just two walks.
