Florida Makes First Trip to UNF, South Alabama on Deck Sunday


JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Two highly lauded tennis programs come to Jacksonville this weekend. Nationally-ranked Florida makes its first-ever trip to UNF Saturday before the Ospreys play host to South Alabama the following day.

Last Time Out
  • The No. 20 Florida State Seminoles (6-1) defended their home courts, winning 4-0 against the visiting Ospreys Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Courts.
  • The Ospreys also improved to 10-0 against Mercer Friday, Feb. 8, sweeping doubles and getting a lift from freshman Sean Lodzki's first win in the Navy and Gray.
  • UNF was originally scheduled to host Flagler and Savannah State February 12, but expected inclement weather pushed the matches back to Tuesday, Feb. 19.

Friendly Confines
  • In its last 21 matches at home the Ospreys are 16-5.
  • The last time that UNF had a losing record at home was in 2009.

Against Our Opponents
  • The North Florida Ospreys and the Florida Gators will have their first match in the history of the two programs at UNF Tennis Complex.  
  • UNF is 2-9 against South Alabama in all time series history.  South Alabama won the last match against the Ospreys, 4-3, March 12, 2016 at the UNF Tennis Complex.  
  • North Florida's last win against the Jaguars came back in 2013 when UNF won 6-1 at home.

  • UNF returns five from last year's roster, including its 2017-18 leader in wins, Lucia Montano (21).
  • Women's tennis added Clemson transfer Constanza Gorches and Brazilian Ana Paula Melilo in the summer before welcoming Sean Lodzki from Tel Aviv, Israel, earlier this month.

South Alabama Jaguars

  • 2018 Record: 20-4, 5-2 SUN BELT
  • Head Coach: Dr. Jaco Keyser (17th season)
  • Head-to-Head: South Alabama leads, 9-2
  • South Alabama is 6-0 on the season with wins over UAB, Samford, and Mcneese State.
  • The Jaguars bring back six returning players as well as a transfer from Jacksonville State and a freshman from Haracho, Japan.
  • As a freshman last season, Yu Fujioka went 26-2 helping South Alabama to a 20-4 record.
