Ospreys Go to the Tar Heel State for Two-Match Road Swing
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Men's tennis will have two challenging matches on deck this weekend when it heads to North Carolina to face UNC - Wilmington and NC State.

The North Florida Men's Tennis program was tabbed with the top spot in the 2019 ASUN Men's Tennis Preseason Coaches poll, receiving 63 overall points and seven first place votes. FGCU was slotted second with 52 points, while ASUN newcomer Liberty received one first place vote and 47 points overall.

- North Florida is 2-1 after winning two out of three at the FSU Invite Jan. 12 - 13. UNF topped Louisiana and UAB 2-1, but fell by the same score to FAU.
- Dominik Barton, Sahil Deshmukh, Federico Nani and Jorge Nunez all competed at the ITF Palm Coast Futures last week.
Against Our Opponents
- Twice the Seahawks have been ranked in the top 100 when these two teams have met, and both times UNF has won. The Ospreys beat No. 33 UNCW, 4-3, in 2012, and later topped them 5-2 as the No. 52 team in 2014.
- The Ospreys are 1-2 all-time against NC State. UNF hasn't played the Wolfpack since its NAIA days, falling 5-4 in the two team's last meeting in 1988.
Taking Inventory
- North Florida returns five from last year's ASUN Championship team.
- Seniors Sahil Deshmukh and Till Von Winning are the top wins leaders from last year. Deshmukh went 19-13 and Von Winning went 16-13, both in singles play. Together they were 15-8 in doubles.
- Dominik Barton is the team's only freshman. He received the ASUN Men's Tennis Player of the Week honor for January 17.
- UNF has two transfers in sophomore Jorge Nunez (Denver) and junior Federico Nani (Florida A&M).

- UNC - Wilmington hasn't lost a home match since April 14, 2017. The Seahawks went 11-0 at home last season.
- UNCW has won four Colonial Athletic Association titles in six years and have made seven NCAA Regional appearances since 2009.
- The Seahawks possess a 13-man roster that is without a true senior. The lineup features one graduate student, five juniors and six freshman.
- Junior Michael Copeland has the best record of all returners from a year ago. The Johannesburg, South Africa, native went 17-4 last year in singles.

- NC State has already picked up two wins against Power 5 schools this spring. The Wolfpack swept Northwestern, 4-0, and later beat No. 12 Georgia, 4-3.
- The Wolfpack are coming off a 6-6 year in the ACC before bowing out of the NCAA Tournament with a 4-1 loss to California. They took No. 1 Wake Forest to the final match last season, falling 4-3.
- NC State returns two 20-win performers from a year ago. Georgiy Malyshev went 20-13 last year, while Ivan Saveljic posted a 21-15 year.
