Ospreys Succumb to Lipscomb on the Road, 3-1

Bisons Nab Sets Three and Four to Pull Away

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Ospreys hit .308 in the second set to tie the match at one apiece, but Lipscomb's strong response in sessions three and four carried the Bisons past UNF, 3-1, Friday, Sept. 28.

Lipscomb 3, UNF 1 (13-25, 27-25, 16-25, 20-25)

Behind the Box Score
  • Lipscomb (8-7, 3-0 ASUN) gathered an early set one lead that it didn't let go of thanks to 14 kills and merely two errors. Senior setter Madilyn McCarty settled in with four kills in the opening frame.
  • UNF (6-14, 1-3 ASUN) disrupted Lipscomb's momentum with a resilient second set to tie the match, 1-1.
  • The Bisons committed a ball handling error and sophomores Emma Dixon and Devyn Wheeler generated consecutive kills to give UNF the 10-8 advantage. Lipscomb rallied late, thwarting a set point to tie it at 25 before redshirt-sophomore Gabby O'Connell and Wheeler closed things out with a pair of kills.
  • The hosts hit over .400 in each of the final two sets to ward off a late push from UNF.

Leaders By the Numbers
  • McCarty | 27 assists, 10 kills, .529 hitting percentage
    • Posted her eighth double-double, a team high
  • O'Connell | 10 kills (11th match in double figures)
  • Taryn Griffey | Nine kills, four blocks
  • Callie Workman | 12 digs (sixth-straight match in double figures)
  • Madison Donnelly | 10 digs
  • Carlyle Nusbaum | 23 kills (game-high)

Notes
  • McCarty surpassed 500 digs in a UNF uniform Friday night. She now has met or exceeded 1,800 assists, 500 digs, 150 kills and 125 blocks wearing the Navy and Gray.
  • The only other team both Lipscomb and UNF have faced this season is Tennessee. The Bisons fell 3-2 to the Lady Vols while the Ospreys dropped a 3-1 contest in Knoxville.

Wright's Words
"Our second set play was the team I see most days in our gym," head coach Kristen Wright said. "We played with heart and we performed, although we struggled containing Nusbaum and their right side, Carli Anderson. We also were slow to make a few key adjustments, offensively and defensively."
