- North Florida ties former ASUN member, UCF, with its four straight victories to lead the conference.
- UNF now has seven total ASUN Tournament Championships since 2010.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
Florencia Rossi and
Valentina Mariotto made quick work on Stetson's No. 3 as they won 6-1 to give UNF the advantage.
- The Hatters then evened the score with a win in the No. 2 spot with the same score.
- Similar to the men's match, it came down to the No. 1 court where
Rafaela Gomez and Intert pulled out the 6-3 victory to give UNF the 1-0 lead.
- In singles actions, Gomez battled in her first set to a tie break and wore her opponent down to grab the 7-6 (3), 6-1 win in the top spot for a 2-0 advantage.
- Just behind her, doubles partner Intert pulled out a straight-set win against Vicky Geurinckx for the 3-0 lead.
- The Hatters won in the No. 3 spot, but it was not enough as the Ospreys came back in the sixth match to win.
- Rossi was blanked in her opening set, but shook off her nerves and refocused to win 6-3, 6-1 and give UNF its fourth straight championship.
COBRA'S CORNER
"This is what we have worked for since day one in the fall. I always tell the team that we have to peak at the right time and this is the perfect example of us doing so. With three freshman in the lineup, we really had to challenge them. I'm so proud of our team for wanting it more than anyone else. The weather conditions made things tough, but we found a way. I am really happy for this team and the future of the this program. I want to say thank you to all of our fans that came to support us and helped us come out with the title. Thank you to our awesome staff that helped us host a top-notch tournament!" -
