Farmer's Double-Double Not Enough at FGCU

FORT MYERS, Fla. - North Florida women's basketball stayed close with the conference leaders early in the game, but the Ospreys could not shut down FGCU's hot shooting as it won 67-52 win at Alico Arena.

The Short Story: FGCU got its revenge after UNF defeated the Eagles in Jacksonville less than a week ago as it shot 51 percent in the second half to take a double-figure lead and never look back.

OPENING TIP
  • Reigning ASUN Newcomer of the Week, senior Keonna Farmer, led the team in scoring for the 11th straight time with 18 points, while recording her league-best eighth double-double with 10 rebounds. 
  • Classmate Tesh Hanson tossed in 14 points with six rebounds and two steals.
  • North Florida shot 40 percent from the floor and hit 70 percent from the free throw line.

First Half Trends
  • North Florida opened up the first with a 6-0 run before FGCU jumped on its own 7-2 stretch to come within, 8-7 with 2:13 to play. The home team went 0-for-10 in the opening five minutes.
  • The Eagles held UNF scoreless over the final two minutes and hit a late triple to take a 10-8 lead after one.
  • With the visitors in striking distance early in the second at 12-10 on a jumper from Farmer, FGCU then went on an 8-4 run to lead 20-14.
  • The home team outscored UNF, 10-6, in the final four minutes to take a 30-22 lead into the half.

Second Half Trends
  • North Florida opened the second on an 8-2 run capped by a triple from Ty Purifoy to pull to within, 32-30.

  • It was Farmer's 15th time leading in scoring and has now scored in double figures in 19 of the last 21 games.
  • Purifoy added eight points, three assists and two steals on the night.
  • FGCU made nine three-pointers on the night including six in the second half, while UNF hit just four treys all coming in the second.
  • In last four losses to the Eagles, the 15-point margin is the smallest since 2013 when UNF lost by just 11.
  • The Eagles held a slight 31-29 edge off the glass, but North Florida owned a 7-2 advantage on second chance points.

UP NEXT
The Ospreys stay on the road for a rematch with Lipscomb who grabbed the win in Jacksonville on January 15. UNF then head to Kennesaw State and look to sweep the Owls for the first time since the 2012 season.
