Ospreys Hit Season-High 11 Treys in Hard-Fought Battle at CSU

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The North Florida women's basketball team connected on a season-high 11 treys, but needed one more as the Ospreys fell 61-59 in a back and forth battle at Colorado State in Fort Collins, Colo. on Sunday afternoon.

Inside the 1st Quarter
After trading baskets in the first four minutes, CSU jumped out to a 15-9 lead with 3:27 left in the quarter. The Ospreys battled back to 15-14 when Lauren Gross hit a layup and Jackson connected on a triple. UNF converted on 31.3 percent of their shots and forced the Rams into three turnovers.
 
Inside the 2nd Quarter
North Florida opened the quarter with an 8-2 scoring rally. Cheyenne Patrick and Jackson knocked down back-to-back treys to extend the UNF lead to 22-19. After CSU took a 28-27 lead, the Ospreys reeled off five straight points to take back the lead at 32-28. UNF connected on four treys and shot 45.7 percent from the field, guiding them to a 34-33 lead at the break.
 
Inside the 3rd Quarter
Defense dominated the quarter as it took nearly three minutes before either team scored a point. UNF struggled offensively, scoring five points on 14.3 percent shooting from the floor. On the other end of the court, the Osprey defense forced CSU into three turnovers and held them to 11 points as the Rams capped the quarter with a 44-39 lead.
 
Inside the 4th Quarter
UNF answered every CSU attempt at putting the game away as the teams traded points in the first four minutes. Trailing 57-52 with 2:55 remaining, the Osprey defense shut down the Rams while a Jackson trey and pair of Emanuel-Wright free throws tied the game at 57. CSU converted a layup with 35 seconds remaining denied UNF from tying it up before adding another layup with 14 seconds left. Jackson capped the scoring in the game with a layup at the buzzer.

"Today's game was certainly a tough one. Defensively, we are not where I would like us to be right now. With that being said, we still had our chances to win and just didn't execute well enough down the stretch. There is definitely a lot to learn from this game." – head coach Darrick Gibbs
