Reiss' Early Blast Propels Ospreys to 1-0 Road Win at Jacksonville

Jacksonville vs UNF Final Boxscore

JACKSONVILLE -- An early goal from Thais Reiss stood up as the North Florida women's soccer team earned a 1-0 shutout victory against crosstown rival Jacksonville in the River City Rumble matchup at Southern Oaks Stadium.

GOALS
UNF - 8' Thais Reiss

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UNF leading scorer Thais Reiss got things started early, netting a goal in the 8th minute to give the Ospreys a 1-0 lead
- Reiss collected the loose ball around midfield and carried it to just outside the box before ripping a shot past a diving JU keeper
- Play remained even for the rest of the opening stanza with North Florida holding the 1-0 halftime lead
- JU nearly netted the equalizer early in the second half as Julianne Hutchison's blast was stopped by Osprey keeper Rhiannon Conelley
- Reiss' attempt for the brace in the 65th minute was turned away on a leaping punch away by the Dolphin netminder
- In the 73rd minute, Kendra Hoffman narrowly missed adding to the UNF total, when her volley from the middle of the box sailed just wide of the right post
- Jacksonville's Maya Fisher lofted an angled shot from the left wing that floated just wide in the 81st minute
- Reiss and Hoffman both saw scoring chances thwarted by JU's keeper after a flurry of shot attempts in the 85th minute of play

QUICK KICKS
- Jacksonville earned a slim 10-9 advantage in shot attempts for the game | Ospreys had six on frame to just three for the Dolphins
- The goal marked the team-leading fifth of the season for Reiss
- UNF goalkeeper Rhiannon Conelley tallied three saves en route to her 4th shutout of the year
- Ospreys earned second straight win over their rivals and are now 5-11-2 all-time against JU

CONFER COMMENTS
"That was a heckuva game. Both teams battled extremely hard. Give JU credit as they made it difficult for us. I'm proud of our team for staying focused as it got pretty physical. We kept our cool and just tried to play our game. Great goal by Thais to get us on the board early. We had a couple chances to put it away but just didn't convert. Ultimately, we found a way to win which is good because we needed those valuable three points in the standings. It gives us some momentum going into next weekend. Anytime we play JU it is an emotional game. We are happy to get the result." - Head coach Robin Confer

UP NEXT
