McCarty Tallies 10th Double-Double in Loss at Stetson

Senior Goes for 19 Assists and 10 Digs in Final Road Match of Regular Season


DELAND, Fla. - The host Hatters hit .400 to top the Ospreys in straight-sets Tuesday, Oct. 30, in North Florida's (9-21, 4-10 ASUN) final road test of the regular season. Senior Madilyn McCarty notched her 10th double-double of the year and redshirt-sophomore Gabby O'Connell tied for the match lead with 12 kills.

Behind the Box Score
  • O'Connell registered one of her five first-set kills to cut the UNF deficit to 14-12, although Stetson (14-10, 6-6 ASUN) responded with a crucial 4-0 run that carried it to a 1-0 lead.
  • Senior Alana Shoff, freshman Grace Peterson and freshman Solimar Cestero added a kill apiece, giving UNF a 4-2 advantage in the second session. The Hatters halted North Florida with an 8-0 run as the hosts went ahead, 2-0.
  • Down 24-15, the Ospreys made a case for a fourth set with a 6-0 run, although the Hatters' Eva Deisa spoiled the streak with a match-ending kill.
  • Wheeler had two aces and McCarty posted three kills in the late run.

  • Cestero posted 10 kills, her eighth double-digit kill match of the season and her most since recording 11 against North Dakota September 10.
  • Sophomore Madison Donnelly posted a season-high seven assists.
  • Stetson clinched the fifth-seed in the ASUN Volleyball Championship.
  • Six teams make the ASUN Volleyball Championship. North Florida possesses a two-match lead in the win column on NJIT and Jacksonville. UNF has two conference matches to play, while NJIT and Jacksonville have four remaining.

"Tonight we beat ourselves. It's hard to win a match when you commit over a set of unforced efforts. That is Stetsons' style; they control the ball, play good defense and get you to mke errors. We did a nice job at the pin and Mads [Madilyn McCarty] did a nice job. We need to get back to work and finish the regular season strong."
