FGCU Tops Ospreys on Rainy Night

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida men's soccer team suffered a 2-0 defeat to Florida Gulf Coast University on a rain filled Saturday night at Hodges Stadium.

The Ospreys fell to 1-7-1, 0-2-0 in the ASUN Conference, while the Eagles improved to 3-4-1, 2-0-0 in the ASUN.

GOALS
FGCU, 56' – Robert Ferrer (Penalty kick)
FGCU, 78' – Shak Adams (Assist: Chris Clement)

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Five minutes into the second half, Micah Smoak ripped a shot that deflected off the post. Adrian Nunez collected the rebound and returned fire, but the shot was saved by the FGCU keeper.
- The Ospreys were called for a handball inside the 18-yard box that gave the Eagles a penalty kick. Ferrer buried the opportunity for the first goal of the game.
- With more than 10 minutes left in the game, the Eagles played the ball out to the right side of the field. Clement sent the ball inside the box and was finished by Adams in the top right corner.

MARINATOS SPEAKS
"Tough game, tough result. We were right in the game. The first half was pretty even. Tord came up with a big save in the first half. Second half, I liked our energy, but we didn't create enough quality chances. We did create a few, but we didn't take them. Credit to FGCU. I thought we defended well tonight as a team and as a unit. They got the second goal later on in the half and we were unable to score. This is a performance I feel we can improve on."

GAME NOTES
- The Ospreys are in the midst of a four-game losing skid.
- UNF took 11 shots on the night and put seven on goal.
- Tord Pedersen generated five saves in goal for the Ospreys.
