Ospreys Take Two from Stetson

DeLAND, Fla. - North Florida made an amazing sixth-inning comeback to go on to win 9-7 in the opening game of the Stetson series before taking the second game, 7-4 on Saturday afternoon at Patricia Wilson Field.

QUICK HITS
  • Five Ospreys recorded three hits across the pair of wins, while freshman Kayla McGory led the way with four RBI on the day.
  • Junior Casey Estes smacked her first home run of the season and also had a double in the victories.
  • For the fourth time this year, Alex Arciola had two or more RBI in a game. Her last time was against Georgia Tech.
  • Amanda Blanchard earned a win and a save on the day as she came in relief in game one with the team behind and tossed five innings to secure the victory. In game two, the junior grabbed the save in her two innings of work.

GAME CAPSULE
Game 1
  • The Hatters struck first with a two-RBI home run in the bottom of the first. Stetson then added three runs in the bottom of the third to own a 5-0 lead.
  • In the fourth, Stetson added one other run before the Ospreys got on the board in the fifth.
  • An error and a single put two on before the Hatters tossed a two-out intentional walk to Navia Penrod.
  • With the bases now juiced, the Hatters tossed another run to bring in Estes from third and keep the bases loaded with two outs.
  • McGory sent a single up the middle to bring in two runners and cut the Hatters lead in half, 6-3.
  • North Florida's offense then exploded in the sixth with six runs on eight hits to go ahead 9-6.
  • In the bottom of the frame, Stetson tried to get back out front, but only mustered one run as Blanchard went on to shut the home team down and secure the win.
  • Blanchard tossed 5.0 innings with seven hits, two runs, one walk and a strikeout to move to 7-3 on the year.
Game 2
  • North Florida got things started in the first as back-to-back singles from Taylor Aguayo and Penrod. Before Aguayo came home on McGory's singled in the left side gap.
  • Penrod then crossed the plate on a successful double steal with McGory for the 2-0 lead.
  • In the fourth, UNF added another run when Arciola brought home Macayla Kelley who singled to the outfield.
  • Estes hit her solo home run in to lead off a productive fifth inning for UNF. 
  • With one out, back-to-back walks put two on for Kelley who sent her second hit of the day to left field and allow Dominica Cocuzza to come around to score.
  • Stetson committed an error on the third out of the inning that allowed Jenna Brownell and Kelley to score and push the Ospreys lead to 7-0.
  • The Hatters answered back in the bottom of the sixth with four runs on five hits and two errors, but Blanchard shut down the Hatters to save the game.

OUTSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Junior Macayla Kelly has now reached base safely in eight straight games.
- Kelly and Penrod are on a five-game hit streak, while Penrod recorded her 24th multi-hit game with a pair in the game two.
- North Florida has now only dropped one series in ASUN play and have not been swept. UNF is now in second place in the ASUN.
