THE SHORT STORY
Rutgers found the formula for success for defeating North Florida as they salvaged a split of the four game series with a 12-4 victory in a game played under dreary skies at Harmon Stadium.

For the second straight game Rutgers started a transplanted infielder on the mound, and again it paid off in a victory for the Scarlet Knights.  Christian Campbell, who started at first base for the first three games of the four game series, followed the script from game number three when Gaby Rosa, converted into a pitcher from a shortstop, earned the victory.

The Ospreys did touch up Campbell for four runs in his five innings of work but as the temperatures dropped throughout the chilly afternoon, so did the Osprey bats, as three Rutgers relievers held UNF scoreless for the final five innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Rutgers scored a single tally to begin the contest, the Osprey's countered with a pair of runs to regain the lead in the bottom half of the opening frame.  Yahir Gurrola started things off with a single up the middle.  Following a walk to Blake Voyles, Chris Thibideau's sacrifice bunt loaded up the bases as Rutgers attempted throw to retire the lead runner Gurrola was late. With one out, Patrick Ervin ripped a double down the right field line to score Gurrola and Voyles.  Campbell however, retired the next two batters to limit the damage to two runs.

- The Ospreys led 3-1 after two innings were in the books thanks to a two out single by Thibideau, scoring Gurrola who was on second base after clubbing his 10th double of the young season.

- UNF starting pitcher Adam Polansky was seemingly in control during the Scarlet Knight's third inning at bats after he retired the first two batters. However, Rutgers then delivered consecutive singles from Mike Carter, Milo Freeman, and Tom Marcinczyk.  After issuing a base on balls, Polansky didn't help his chances to escape the inning by committing an error on a drop throw at first base that would have ended the inning.  Carmen Sclafani, who entered the day struggling at the plate, bounced a ground ball up the middle for a base hit that scored two runs giving Rutgers a 5-3 lead.

- Each team exchanged solo runs in the fourth inning, with Gurrola, who reached on a two base throwing error, scoring on a Thibideau RBI ground out for the Ospreys

- Rutgers went to their bullpen relieving Campbell after five innings of work.  Unlike the first two games of the series, when Osprey hitters had field days against Rutgers pitching, Scarlet Knight relievers Joe Neglia, Eric Reardon, and Ryan Fleming shut the door allowing no runs and just two hits over the final four innings

- After a couple of lopsided wins to begin the series by the Ospreys, Rutgers turned the tables and added 6 runs of their own to pull away for their sixth victory of the season against nine defeats

Following the end of their nine-game win streak last night, the Ospreys record suffered their second straight loss to Rutgers slipping to 11-6 on the year

PARTING SHOTS
- If there was a shining light in the 12-4 loss to their opponent from the Big Ten, coach Smoke Laval and his staff had to be encouraged with the two innings of work on the mound from Brad Depperman.  As a promising player out of high school, Depperman has been besieged by injuries and illness, but his appearance today gave a ray of hope that the big right hander is rounding into form after giving up no earned runs.

- After having his  12 game hitting streak snapped in the second game of Saturday's double header, Yahir Gurrola wasted little time in getting back on track with a pair of hits, including belting his 10th two bagger of the season.

- Rutger's third baseman Milo Freeman had an at bat that he will long remember in the fourth inning.  With Osprey hurler Matt Vaka on the mound, Freeman battled Vaka in a 15 pitch at bat before lining a single into left field.

- Yet another oddity that took place this weekend at Harmon Stadium was from Rutgers leadoff hitter Juwaun Harris, a two-sport star and a starting wide receiver on the Scarlet Knight's football team.  Harris was the leadoff hitter in 8 consecutive trips to the plate, a mark that should garner the attention of serious baseball historians

WHAT'S NEXT
UNF will hit the road for a game at College of Charleston on Tuesday that commences with the first pitch at 4:00 PM.  The Ospreys will then host Bradley in a three-game series at Harmon Stadium beginning Friday at 6:00 PM, with afternoon games scheduled for Saturday(1:00 PM) and Sunday (noon).
